Hello all of you. Week three. Weekend binge drinking as usual. Nothing changed so far. Drank a bottle last night and the night before. Went down like nectar! Taking my Nal one hour before. I KNOW that this is probably normal for some people, that there's no change. It's just that I thought because my alcohol intake isn't huge compared to some people I thought it would take effect quickly and I would have noticed a difference more quickly. Are there many of you that waited weeks and weeks before you noticed a difference? I'd be grateful for your positive feedback! Incidentally - I'm not giving up!

Brummy don't give up. Each of us is different. I was a nightly drinker and only drank a small amount. It was months and months before I notice a real change. Your pattern, your drinking history, age, weight, amount drunk - all are individual to you. If we're to believe Dr. Sinclair when he says that Naltrexone will block the endorphin rush that occurs when we drink, I for one would wait until the process is a bit futher along.

Binge drinking is so different from nightly/daily. It may take a lot longer for you to see results. Can you search around here and find other bingers? See their progress and you'll feel better. Best of luck and stick around!

Thanks so much for your reply. I will stick to it but I think it's a lot longer and harder than the book says. All the best to you too!

Hi Brummy, hang on in there! I think it just takes different time scales for each persons brain to realise that the big payoff is no longer coming when they have a drink. I think that drinking pre TSM is like putting money in a slot machine. Every single time you put money (alcohol) in you hit the jackpot and got a payoff (endorphin release). This might have happened hundreds of times over many years. If the slot machine suddenly stopped paying, we would still keep putting money in for a length of time, hoping for the payoff to come back. Some people might keep putting money in 10 more times before they gave up and some people might keep putting money in 100 times before they gave up. I think this is how extinction works, everyone is different in terms of how long it takes the brain to realise the payoff ain't coming any more.

hopefully you start to feel the benefits soon. Keep us posted.

Brummy,

Do give it a good chance. No one can guarantee anything but it is pretty much a consensus on this board that it is a lot longer and harder than the book says, yet it usually works. I think realizing this is a big part of the success.
