OK...straight to the point tonight. I'm p1553d off with nal and tsm at the moment. I'm really frustrated that I am not drinking at reasonable levels by now and my patience has just about gone. I seen my doc last week and I'm usually fired up and motivated after seeing him as he's a great guy. That very same evening I got totlly wasted and ended up rowing with my partner over something stupid. We hardly ever row. I have hit a plateau after 7 weeks and now after 25 weeks I'm wondering whether to completely pack in tsm. I'm sitting here now on my first drink of the night and even though I did not have an appetite for it I knew I would end up drinking. I can feel somthing happening when I use nal but the habit and compulsion overide any displeasure I get from alcohol. I've booked to see Dr Chick in 2 weeks for a prescription for Baclofen. I'm willing to try both bac and nal together as I don't want to discard tsm just yet. In fact I'm so confused about it all and disappointed with myself for believing I might be one of the lucky ones who get cured and can live a life of moderate drinking.

Arrgghhh!!!!

Hey Galoot, honey, I hate to see any one give up. I know you will try the bac & Nal hopefully with success. You're having a fight with your subconcious, I know how hard it is. Our concious mind which sometimes isn't very smart out-talks the sub. That's because, I think, we've been in the habit of listening to it for so very long. Like: I won't drink tonight, Do I want to drink, well, not really but..No I'm NOT going to, okay then, lets go balls to the wall, Well, maybe, Ya think I should, MMmmm: Wellll, okay ya talked me into it. Now, try to fight that last answer. Who do you think wins? Does this make sense? It does to me. I do that too. Anyway, just my 4 cents. I DO wish you much success & I know you can do it. Why??? Because you want it to very badly. Keep pluggin' it'll turn a corner for you soon.
ALWAYS, JANE

Hi and thanks again Jane...you are a rock for us on here. My prob is that I have no impulse control with alcohol. This is why I struggle with breaking the habit. I need to get obliterated when I have a drink. I have noticed the amount I need has decreased by 40% since I started Tsm thats why I don't really want to stop nal just yet. I think Baclofen will deal with the 'obliteration' side of my drinking. I've seen it work well for others on these forums who are also on nal.

Hi Galoot-I've been following you since I joined the forum. Even though I'm only starting week 7, I can identify with the feelings of lack of impulse control. Even though I drink far less than I did pre-TSM, when I do drink I can sure pack it in like the "good" ole days, which is a concern. I hope the bac helps you, and this is what for me stood out from your last post I have noticed the amount I need has decreased by 40% since I started Tsm
Even though you're not where you want to be, that is still pretty significant! That alone would make me want to stick with TSM for good even if drinking behavior isn't extinguished. Also, see joe12pack's and yogagirl's threads (among others) for the improvements they had with increasing NAL dosage to 100 mgs. Just some thing to think about-stay strong!

Hi there stjude and really nice to hear from you. The nal is helping but I suppose I'm just starting to get even more insight into my drinking by this process of tsm. It's a great source of learning and inspiration on this site. Anyway, I've bought my flight tickets and booked my appointment so no going bac if you excuse the pun.

Bac and tsm here I come!

I'm drinking my usual amount tonight but must admit I feel more positive due to my appointment with Dr Chick in 2 weeks time.

I should have told you people that I am also on Champix (Chantix in US) for quitting smoking. I stated it 4 weks ago for the second time. It works really well until you stop taking it. In the UK it is usually prescribed for 3 months but I believe with persuasion you can have it for up to 6 months. So with Champix, Naltrexone and soon to be Baclofen...all to cure my various addictions, I ought to be known as 'Chemical Galoot'.

So much for will power.....

hello again...

my drtinking is almost as bad as ever but not quite! I'm drinking heavily but Nal at least stops me regularly drinking over 2 bottles of wine or equivelant. Going Monday to see the doc about Baclofen. I'm excited (again, just as I was before I started TSM but see how that turned out  ) No seriously, I do appreciate TSM and it puts the stops on me getting absolutely wasted every night. I think Baclofen will make me an easier going and more relaxed person.

I will let you all know of course about my progress although it is snowing here and I have a feeling my flight will be cancelled. To add to that my estranged wife has a scikness and diarorhia virus (blasted word - so difficult to spell!) and the kids are coming to me this weekend as usual so hope they don't get it or indeed pass any germs on to me that will cause me to miss my flight lol....

all the best,
galoot

Hiya,

Been on TSM 6 1/2 months and my drinking is still a major concern although I have been able to have a liitle more control. I think itworks for me to a degree so I'll continue but I reckon Baclofen will work well in tandem.
