Please understand, I want this to work so much. I am a weekend only person but couldn't wait to try the NAL (Thursday)as it's pretty much Friday and my husband is away - so no comments about drinking on a Thursday. . I had 1/2 of one tonight an hour before a cooler and thought "I"ll be fine, I don't drink on Thursday nights usually anyway". My damn ego. I couldn't stop drinking or eating either. I have half demolished tomorrow nights curry (it's an English friday night thing!) then started on some Port that was lurking from a dip I made for a dinner party last week. What the heck. Is this for real. I feel absolutely no different. Please help! I thought there would be some different feelings.

It's hard to respond given the limit info in your post -- i.e., how much you usually drink and how much you drank tonight for example. I have never heard of NAL having much affect on eating habits.

I do know that the first time I drank on NAL, I noticed a huge difference almost immediately. It worked as advertised and I did not get the normal buzz. I did not want to drink very much compared to normal. However, as time goes on it appears to be easier to drink more after the initial "honeymoon" so many people describe. It's a bit of a rollercoaster so don't give up. Everyone has a different reaction it appears.

I would continue to give it a try. 25mg tomorrow or the next time you drink and then up the dose to 50mg from there on.

Good luck

Thanks for your reply. It's the morning after now. I usually don't drink at all on Thursdays as I said in my last post. I only drank one cooler and about 1/4 bottle of Port as that's all there was in the house, but I could have just kept on and on....... Usually on a weekend I can pretty much drink wine until I pass out. This sounds so disgusting. Also I am wondering if the Paxil I take is cancelling out the NAL somehow. So confused. Any insight anyone?

brummy,
as to the interaction with paxil, there have been few if any clinical studies done on the interaction of nal with other drugs. however, anecdotally, on this board i believe there are folks who use anti-depressants who have had success with tsm.

i wouldn't worry yet. if you go back and read others early experiences some people report their response day by day at first and merlot is right there is a wide range of individual experiences. some people actually see higher numbers at first because they have "given themselves permission to drink" for the first time in a while. others have the immediate honeymoon effect.

it's easy to worry and harder to stick with it and be patient, but that is what this process requires. so, read as much as you can on the board, always take your nal 1 hour before drink, and be ready for a possibly long and bumpy road. your tsm journey may be short and smooth, but i think it's better to be prepared for all possibilities.
best to you!

Thank your for replying so quickly. What you said makes sense. Patience is the key for me! I don't intend to give up. It's Friday today so I'll try again tonight and see what happens. :D

Hi Brummy - and welcome. Give yourself permission to drink when you feel you want/need to drink. As long as you take your naltrexone one hour before, you are covered. It will be working 'behind the scenes' and you may not notice any difference.

As others have said it seems this method works differently for many - your mileage may vary as the saying goes! So don't get discouraged in your first week!!!

If I can say this without insulting you, you seem like a bit of a nervous type - if that's the case, your eating and drinking when you really didn't want to may be a nervous response to the new experience of The Sinclair Method. Try to relax - do what you always do - and KNOW that things are happening in your brain that you will not be able to 'feel'

After a few weeks/months you definitely will feel some control - not everyone experiences the same 'cure' in the same way. Don't over think, don't over plan. Good luck - and I hope you post your results often. We are all here for each other.

Hi Brummy, Try not too over analize stuff. I know it's not easy. Every once in a while, I'll STILL wake up in cookie crumbs & don't remember how they got there. Or the chocolate stain on the sheets, or even cereal. The AL activates the carb thing in me & I am not able to control it if I've had too much to drink. I think the eating thing for me right now is good reason to stay with this. If I was an everyday drinker I would be 400lbs. I have to be right on it all the time.
Anyway, you're certainly not alone in that department.
ALWAYS, JANE

Jane, I had to laugh about your crumbs and carbs! That
s me to a tee! Thanks for your support. Sometimes I feel so alone, wine used to be such a laugh, now it's fine when I'm in it and not when I'm not, if you know what I mean. However, an hour ago had a NAL and just had my first sip of wine tonight and it tastes kind of weird.

Brummy, I feel alone sometimes too. It's so hard trying to fight this thing feeling like that. But even tho I don't have total support from my Husband, he does'nt discourage it either. Would just be nice if I could bring up the subject & have a real live person in front of me who understands. He knows when to shut himself off. Good for him. We all do not have that shut-off switch working properly. Somewhere along the line we lost our emotions in the "bottle". I really believe it is because we are super sensitive people, & have trouble dealing with it. Look at me? I can be one tuff cookie, but say one thing that hits the sensitive side & I'l just cry like a baby. I cry when I see animals getting abused on TV, I even have to leave the room. And the evening news?? Forget it.
Sorry got carried away. I know you can identify with everything I said. Just good luck to you & come here when you need to talk.
ALWAYS, JANE

Thanks for your reply Jane. I can identify with you in many ways. My husband of nearly 27 years is great, but this alcohol 'problem' of mine is becoming a wall between us, especially as he has kind of gone off wine and beer and now my 'problem' is so visible!! Didn't do too badly last night and the wine didn't taste as delicious as it usually does!!! See what happens tonight! Great to speak to you.
