Hi EX haters. I amnew here. My husband just started TSM and I am using this site as a guide.
I hope John joins in. I have been sober 3 yrs by other means, but that does not work for him.

Like Tambos EX I have stood by him through relapses and periods of sobriety
Where I thought we were going to be fine then WHAM it all faLs apart.

Your EX,s may deserve hating, but I will tell you as someone who has been in their shoes, the outside world advises them over and over that the only thing they can do to help is to leave you. After trying to help you in other ways, they will eventually decide that they are an enabler and you will both be better apart. There is SOME wisdom to iT.

If I were not also an alcoholic fuLly invested in researching the science of addiction, I would not be giving this method my belief. I would tell him it was another excuse to drink and I could not stand by him. Your EX,s outside advice is telling them this is all nonsense.

The best thing to do is accept the heartache. Go after your cure. Become a whole person capable of having a full relationship. You could not do that while addicted. Become a nonaddict. THEN decide if that EX was even the right person for YOU. A nonaddicted you may not even want the same person the addicted you wanted and loved!

Try again to recconnect when you are whole. That is my advice. I wear both shoes. I wish you first freedom from addiction and then the joys of love. Hate will bring you no happiness

I just wanted to report on something interesting that happened tonight. It being a Saturday and the night before Halloween no less, I really wanted to get drunk. I took my nal at 5 pm and started drinking at six. I had a pint of Southern Comfort and mixed it with coke. That's what I used to drink in college and it still brings back fond memories so I wanted to extinguish that. It is now 1:30 am. I've been nursing that pint for more than 7 hours. I have not gotten drunk or even buzzed all night. Honestly it is very frustrating but I can't seem to drink any faster. I really want to get drunk, but something about the feeling or maybe the taste is making me slow down before I can drink fast enough to feel the effects. This is very unlike me. I'm happy because it seems like I'm making progress with my alcoholism, but also very frustrated as I can't seem to get a buzz. Don't worry though. Since I've started TSM I've always taken nal before drinking, and I will always continue to do so for the rest of my life even if it means I can't get high off of alcohol anymore.

Cool stuff. I think spirits are one of the hardest things to extinguish so you're doing good. As for missing the buzz, to hell with that, its your alcoholic self that misses it, not the real you. You can now look forward to happier future.

Sweet!! I agree with Z9, that is your alcoholic self missing it. This is s blessing and probably what normal people feel when trying to down a pint of hard liquor :). Be aware that as the weeks go by this "may" change briefly but this is definitely a great sign that TSM is working. Congrats. BTDT

I think it's especially telling because it was a holiday event, so other positive hormones/chemicals were probably kicking in there to trigger the brain to want to get drunk. As a former hard core party girl who could find any excuse to party but was always happy to have one where everyone else was planning to get drunk too, I can totally identify with that jonesing for a good buzzed time because of a holiday. As the song goes... "the thrill is gone baby"

Just wanted to report that I threw up last night while drinking on TSM. Before TSM, out of the thousands of times that I've been drunk, I've thrown up maybe 5 times. I'm not sure what this means, but I hope it means that I'm reacting more to alcohol the way a normal person would.

I also threw up a couple of weekends ago on TSM-it was several hours after I'd drank and I'd eaten a big plate of pasta & sauce right after I drank which I rarely every did pre-TSM (eat or throw up).
Extra scary was I only vomited nasty green bile, which has only happened once before when I had gone on a serious bender consuming like a 5 bottles of wine in one day and had the delerium tremors the next day (so glad those days are a thing of the past). Hopefully is a good sign! It certainly limits me to 2 bottles in a sitting  , which believe it or not for me is major progress.

Okay, so I think I officially extinguished my Kentucky Fried Chicken cravings. Seriously, KFC used to be my favorite fast food. I would eat it at least once a week and sometimes 2 or 3 times a week. I loved it since I was a very small child. I had KFC a couple times about an hour after taking nal my first week of TSM. Not because I was trying to extinguish KFC, but because that's the way the timing worked out. Then after that I stopped craving KFC which I thought was odd, but I had more pressing issues on my mind so I didn't think about it too much. Then tonight even though I didn't want KFC, I decided to get some anyway. It didn't taste good at all! I've never had that reaction to KFC before.

I can't believe it only took me 2 sessions of eating KFC on nal to extinguish my lifelong craving for it. Why can't my alcohol extinguishment be this easy? Well, at least I extinguished a food that was pretty unhealthy. I have to be careful what I eat on nal from now on.

Sorry don't know if it's really the Nal or what but it made me giggle a little to think you extinguished KFC. Go have a salad!

OMG. I can totally relate. I've lost total interest in caffeine and ice cream (my lifelong passion). These have disappeared very quickly and easily. It just goes to show what a strong hold alcohol has on me that it takes months for me to start to extinguish it. That is so funny about KFC  Was it original or extra crispy? BTDT
