A few weeks into my TSM journey, I got an e-mail from some blog or newsletter I follow that touted a subliminal message software program. It seemed serendipitous. I looked into the software and decided to give it a try. I'm trying to attack my problem (alcohol) on several fronts, and thought this might help.

What the software does is to briefly pop up a nearly transparent message on your computer screen every 5 seconds or so. Most of the time, I don't even notice them.

There are various "programs" built in to the software that you can choose from. There are ones for business success, health issues like losing weight, brain power, etc. Each program has a number of affirmations that will be randomly displayed. They recommend picking no more than 3 programs at once.

There was not a program for overcoming an alcohol addiction using TSM (go figure), but you can create your own, so that's what I did. Here are the affirmations I am using:

My desire for alcohol fades each day
I am drinking less and less
The Sinclair Method is working for me
I am wiping out my addiction to alcohol
I feel great!
I feel better and better each day
I am getting my life back
I am climbing out of a hole
Alcohol no longer rules my life
I am being cured by the naltrexone
The future is bright
Quitting drinking is easy for me
I no longer need to drink every day

I don't think I will have any way of knowing if this helps me or not, but I don't think it can hurt, and I am making good progress so far.

If interested, see the Subliminal Power web site at subliminal-power.com.

Full Disclosure: That is an "affiliate" link. If someone clicks it and ends up buying the software, I get a few bucks. I'm NOT posting this here to try and make money. I am just putting this info out here in case it my help someone get cured. I only signed up as an affiliate to post this message. I doubt I'll put that link anywhere else. If this bothers you and you still want to check out the software, then just type in the URL rather than click the link. But, I *could* use the help. I'm putting my 4th kid through college and I've spent TONS of money on booze over the past 35 years.

You might also want to try putting the line

"I automatically take my naltrexone always before drinking"

into that subliminal program? Interesting topic since so many people now sit in front of computers for hours.

Thanks for the feedback, Dr Eskapa. I personally don't have any trouble with compliance in always taking my naltrexone, but that could be useful for some.

hmmmm. that IS interesting. Sorry to hi-jack for a second....Dr. Eskapa, glad to see you here. Could you post that updated database you mentioned the other day? maybe you already did post it and I didn't see it.

back to the topic.....do these messages get in the way of what you're doing? I definitely stare at a screen waaay too much these days. maybe I should take advantage of that.

Hi Joe,

No, the messages do not get in the way of what you are doing. I rarely even notice them. Once in awhile, I'll kinda catch one out of the corner of my eye.

You can adjust the settings, but by default (IIRC), the messages come up every 5 seconds randomly across the screen, are displayed for 1/10th of a second, and are pretty transparent. Even if I tried, there is no way I could see what the message said.

I like these affirmations. I do a similar thing during my morning meditation time. I have a list of one-liners that are reinforcing to my long-term sobriety.
Another thing that I found very helpful is a podcast on "Addiction" #9 at the meditation podcast.com. Real good stuff.
Good luck all,

@hadenough - thanks for the info about the meditation podcast! I just listened to #9, although I wasn't really in the right place or frame of mind to take full advantage. I'll try this again - I'm looking for every advantage I can find to finally break free from my addiction. Good luck to you!
