I'm not keeping a daily log, but I will check in time to time.

It's about 7 weeks now. After my binging episodes a few weeks ago, I promised myself to be really sure I wanted to drink before taking my nal and buying that bottle. I had sprints of 5 alcohol free days in a row, but I have three-day weekends where I'm tempted simply because I know I have the time to drink and recover. But I have only had one bottle at a time--I don't go out for another bottle any more!

I will call myself cured when I can have a glass or two with friends, but not want to drink on my own.

Welcome Adrienne, 5 AF;s in one week sounds great. If you are having 3 day drinking weekends - it might be worth tracking your intake so you can see the progress on your drinking days too? All the best - keep us posted on your progress.

Kiwi. :)

Going on 8-9 weeks now. I'm drinking a lot less, but I've been sick from either side effects of medications or a sinus infection. I'm not sure how much I will drink when I'm not tired from other things.

In addition to the school days when I don't drink, I've had weekend days where I have had only one or two drinks when having lunch with someone and then not drinking anymore that day. I made sure to take my nal and I was still able to appreciate that the wine tasted good, but did not want any more than the one drink with the meal. This is how I want to drink--one glass when appropriate. I want to enjoy wine without overdoing it. But I'm giving myself a few more months before I call myself "cured."

Seventy one days since I started. I've been taking naltrexone every time I've had a drinking session and I feel it is really working. There are still times when I think I want a drink, but when ever I buy the bottle of wine and take my nal an hour before I start drinking, I am very disappointed with my drinking experience. Maybe it's the cheap wine, but that never mattered before. I still finish the bottle (I can't stand to waste it yet), but it is more than enough and I'm wishing I hadn't bothered by the time I'm done. The process of extinction seems to be working.

I think I miss being able to enjoy a glass of wine. What else is out there?

I find... buy a better wine and ENJOY a glass or 2.

Sounds like huge progress to me. I've found that the less I drink the better alcohol I can afford to drink when I do. Maybe you'll miss the wine a bit, but you won't miss the hangovers and the misery of being chained to AL ;)

I'm with you Adrienne! I kind of miss enjoying my wine, because the wine I drink (cheap!) makes me rather sick now. I agree, I think now I could afford to buy a really nice wine, and really enjoy a glass or two once or twice a week.

Another option, at least for me, is a rather weak Vodka + Izzi. You can't really taste the vodka, and for me, for some reason, it is not as offensive as other alcohol, like wine (!?!?!?! I can't believe I am even saying this !?!?!?!?! ) My husband, all along, has said he doesn't like the taste of alcohol and only drinks it to be social (which is not very often, or very much.) He has to find drinks where he can't taste the alcohol at all. I think I am finally starting to get that.

And missing enjoying wine does not even compete with the wonderful feeling of waking up without a hangover. I am learning to really enjoy my mornings and days, instead of suffering through them and counting the minutes tilll I can get drunk again at night.

I used to love the taste of hard liquor. I loved martinis, manhattans, whiskey & soda. I didn't like sweet drinks that covered the taste of liquor. I like my wines dry, not sweet.

I think the nal is blocking the lovely endorphins I associate with a good drink and my disappointment is leading to extinction of drinking. A dry, chilled, straight martini with a lemon twist or a perfect manhattan was the prelude to a fine meal at a good restaurant for me. Dry wine made my dinner taste better at home. With nal, I just get dizzy and a little sick. I miss the sensual experience of a perfect meal after a long day.

I know I'm better off not drinking at all because there is either too much or not enough. But damn! I miss the highs!
