Good morning, all.

I am scheduled for outpatient surgery and will have to cease taking my nal. Can someone advise me how long I need to be off it prior to this event? This will be the first time not taking it in over a year plus and I am very nervous about it. Can a fellow Sinclairian help me with this?

Thank you all so very much.

BBeachin

I don't have exact numbers, but my understanding is that Nal is out of your system with in a day or two. Seem like you would be safe if you quit two or even three days ahead of your surgery. Have you discussed with with your surgeon? Seems like her or she should have an opinion. Good luck!

I agree with Yoga. Talk to your surgeon. I think 5 days to a week without drinking would be ideal. I remember Jim Clark went through a similar experience a few months back. You may want to PM him, or he may chime in here. Jim?

I'm not a doctor and this is not medical advice. From http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/bookshelf/b ... art=A93021

Have patients abstain from naltrexone for at least 3 days (conservatively, 7 days) before initiating opioid analgesics

Many thanks to you for taking the time to respond. No, I haven't discussed this with the surgeon as I don't want it on my records for insurance reasons (although my MD knows I am doing this, I order from Alldaychemists). She recommended I tell him but I dunno... it may come back to haunt me later.

Good idea re: Jim Clark. I had forgotten he has gone thru this to so I will pm him.

Muchas gracias!

BB

yeah I wrote her and said regardless if you drink, I would say a minimum of three days and maybe the five days would be better.

One thing I failed to mention BB, I didn't have much pain after surgery, so it didn't really matter whether the meds worked.

now that being said, I did drink, and I didn't feel it set me back, my best Jim
