thanks mate!! :D

Interestingly though I have found that if I change drink or environment that I tend to drink more units. It makes me question TSM but then I realise that I enjoyed alcohol less than I previously did so I guess it must be working....

Well after several weeks I am starting to wonder if I will reach 'normal' levels of drinking. I have still maintained a reduction of about 40% thanks to TSM but after reading 50mg may metabolise quicker in some it started to make sense to increase to 75mg. There is a guy on Youtube who has had success on 75mg and I decided to give it a try last night. I have had encouraging results for 2 nights running so maybe 75mg is the best dose for me as I have not enjoyed alcohol on this dose.

fingers crossed!

Galoot, stick with it,40% reduction in 4 months is great.I've only just started so not one to give advice but found your last 2 posts interesting.
I think just be patient and don't overthink it,you never know when you will turn a corner.

week 24 and still on approx 90 UK units. It's a slow, frustrating program but still btter off now than pre TSM. Seen my TSM doc yesterday who is encouraging me to take more control over my drinking. Sounds like reasonable advice as Nal can't do it all on it's own without us making some effort inn this process of change.

One thing I have noticed is that I now think less now about alchol. I do not worry so much about having to make sure I get down the pub. I found myself on the wine section at the supermaret and only realised I was there when I was at the end of the aisle. This sort of thing has demonstrated to me that Nal hs made a change to my thoughts etc towards alcohol. It might take a few more monthsfor me to become sick of drinking but I'll hang on in there....

p.s. averaging 2 AF days per week

I read back on my weekly progress and since week 7 I have been at my current level of 80 - 90 UK units per week. I have been having about 2 AF days per week but to compensate I am drinking more in individual sessions. This is where I need to focus and start trying harder to cut down my drinking.

Hi galoot - there are lots of tricks you can use to help cut down your units. Can you drink at home a few nights instead of heading to the pub? You are liable to have more control then. Can you start later? Can you switch what you drink? If you're at home can you use a timer so you don't have more than one drink an hour? If you are drinking at home can you only have one day supply on hand?

You are right in one way: sometimes we get to a point where the good old Nal is working away, but we are doing our darndest to keep drinking! Habit gets many of us, trying to kill anxiety or shyness or anger, or depression or whatever gets some of us too.

Your doctor may be on to something - there is a point where just a little more effort at control may turn the trick for you. Try a few different things - you are not locked in to anything. You don't have to continue if what you try doesn't work. Then you'd wait another month, and then try again. It will happen!!!

Hi bgh, thanks for your suggestions. I tried all those things in the past....seems like old fashioned will power might be the answer. Maybe I'm too reliant on the tablets and need to put some effort in myself.

How are you getting on with tsm? Hope you have managed to reach a good result!

Hey Galoot! I can sooo identify with what you said about not thinking about AL as much! I too was in the market & passed up the AL aisle no problem! During the day I rarely think about it. So honey, that is huge for us!! I also think putting in some effort will be beneficial. It could never hurt. So, while you think you're not getting anywhere, you REALLY are!! :o
ALWAYS, JANE
