A lot you of you know my story..crazy drunk to almost nothing and quick. I barely drink now, I have maybe 4 a month if that. I am not crying or beating myself up AT ALL over it...actually I could care less. When I do have the couple drinks though I have noticed it's over some trigger..food and drink, friends etc and drink. Each situation I have total control but the desire to drink is strong so I do, but I don't get drunk or close to it, and once I have the first with Nal it's kinda like " wow why did I do that, it's not all that" in my head.

My question is do any of you that are cured think the desire at some point completely goes away?

My current imediate situation is different owing to not taking NAL an hour before , so its not representative of the last 18 months . Apart from that I've found an increasingly decreasing desire to drink this last year . All the same I seem to have a strong attachment to habit
and all the cultural ritual that revolves around drinking here in France . So I continue to drink lightly but frequently .
But your question is a good one as it seems some stop and others continue to drink moderately . Hope we get answers here from both camps .
I still reckon its necessary to do a full three years to see how this pans out . So in that perspective like you we're newcomers .
I reckon the strong desire you mention will probably reduce gradually but its looking good already for you if tsm curbs the quantity and you loose interest .
I have my doubts that tsm or anything can fully pulllout an addiction root and branch the brains too complicated for that but it does a damn good job for us all the same .
Good continuation for you .All the best .

I don't know how many cured folks still stop by here anymore, but I'll give you my answer: Yes, I think it goes away completely.

I stopped by today to update my status because I just finished an AF month, with no end in sight. I am wondering if those two beers I had 30 days ago were my last. This past month I was in two drinking situations, but I didn't have any Naltrexone on me, so I declined. I had no bad feelings about it at all. I did not miss AL one bit. The other folks didn't care if I drank or not, so it was good for all.

I suspect there may be a slight chance I'll have something in within the next few weeks or so. I don't know why I think I will. It's just a feeling.

Bob

Supplemental reply: I had a night to think about why I think I might have a Naltrexone drink in September.

Reason 1: To prove AA wrong.
Reason 2: So it doesn't screw up my exponential decay curve on my graph. (My OCD often eclipses clear thinking and reason).

I am not an engineer, or OCD, but I nevertheless feel I am in the presence of a kindred spirit :P
