Hi Bob, I went through that phase where wine which was my main drink tasted awfull and it still does somewhat. I normally put some sprite or seven up in it now and that works. I dont like to drink alot of beer because of calories and I was never one for shorts unless I was on a major binge. I still like the odd hot whiskey though.

Today is my 1½ year anniversary on TSM. I just started my 79th week and I'm in my 19th month now as shown in my signature. I haven't had anything with alcohol in it for over 6 weeks now and have had no desire to do so.

I had originally planned to have a couple of beers TSM-style to prove the 12-steppers wrong, but ultimately decided that the idea was somewhat sophomoric. It's not me against the antiquated recovery establishment. It was me against my addiction and I have won thanks to TSM. If I feel like a drink at some time in the future, I'll have a drink TSM-style. If I don't want a drink, I won't have one. Very simple. I am perfectly content the way I am now.

Here are my monthly and quarterly graphs. The quarterly graph looks like a classic exponential decay curve, as expected. Exactly what you'd expect to see over a significantly long period of time. In the monthly graph, you can clearly see the honeymoon effect at the beginning, the extinction burst thereafter, the clear point in time where I became cured, and the slow but fairly consistent decline over the many months afterward.

Hang in there everyone. This is worth it!

Thanks a bunch, HT! I really wish it were working for you. I don't understand why it's choosy on who it works for and who it doesn't.

It certainly is not a belief or faith thing. I stated a number of times that I did not think this treatment was ever going to work and was going to fail like all the ones that preceded it. In fact as previously posted, I ordered, received and read Dr. Ameisen's book on Baclofen and was planning on trying that method when TSM failed after trying it for 9 months. But instead, TSM worked to my astonishment.

The numbers I recorded all the way to the present day I could not have attempted to follow even if I had wanted to. My gut feeling when the numbers leveled off that it was going to stay like that indefinitely; I was going to be a light to moderate drinker. I initially failed to notice the slight decline over time that eventually led to the abstinence that has unconsciously set in now. I wonder if it will last.

Bob, thanks for your updates. Your story is very inspiring to those of us who are a couple of months in and have had some initial success and are awaiting that drop that you experienced around 15 weeks. I loved your comment about your lack of belief in this working when you started. I guess the rats in Sinclair's lab had little faith as well.

Wow, Bob, looks like you are the poster child for TSM! Thanks for posting these graphs--they are very compelling. Appreciate your long-term perspective.

Bob,

As someone who just finished Week 1, your results are the most encouraging to me, helped by your graphs.

Can I ask for your opinion about the long-hauling experienced by some (?many) posters? I mentioned this concern on another thread but didn't many responses.

As far as I know (I am not a psychologist), extinction is not an all-or-none response, and should follow the exponential decay you experienced. Allowing for statistical noise, if after 2-3 months there is no statistically significant downward trend-line (either exponential or linear), isn't the Occam's Razor conclusion to try something else?

In other words, if in 3 months I don't see an objective decrease in my drinking, it seems unscientific for me to continue. I don't mean cured, but I should see an exponential decay in number of units/day.

IIRC, Sinclair's rat experiments show classic exponential decay graphs. Of course, humans are different. For example, if dropping my units by 30% causes changes in my social cues, then other extinctions may come into play and the exponential curve becomes a new one.

But that begs the question: if after a reasonable amount of time units/week stay the same, is there really any point in continuing with TSM?

I don't want to discourage any one, but the nice thing about TSM is that should work, or not, on skeptics as well.

Thanks.

James, what are you if not a psychologist?
Do you have a hidden agenda?

We are a bunch of people with something in common, trying to rectify it or at least make it better.
That's all,pure and simple.
I'm on my second week,no honeymoon unless that was it when I was sick from Nal for days.
My fourth time taking nal was earliar and I drank like a fish so I'm a little disheartened.

Cheers Phoenix.
