Hi all and congratulations on this brilliant, informative and supportive forum. Following some lurking and a huge amount of reading on this forum, I decided to give TSM a go.

I ordered my Naltrexone from Alldaychemist (no problems delivering to Australia for anyone wondering) and commenced on the Australia Day Weekend of 25 January 2010. I was a classic binge drinker that would go alcohol free Sunday to Thursday and then put away a lot of alcohol (mostly wine) on Friday and Saturday nights. I was also the kind of drinker that would go out for a night with the intention of having only a couple of drinks and wake up (thankfully mostly in my own bed) with no recollection of large parts of the night and a hangover that could last for three days. Things started to go really awry for me late in 2009 with the passing away of my mother in Ireland in early December and basically December and early January were a haze and my drinking reached a new level that was no longer acceptable to myself or my family. A bit of internet research later and I came upon this website and things have been looking up ever since.

To date I have had what appears to be a classic experience. Over the first few days I experienced the loopy spaced out feeling, but luckily have had none of the nausea. I also had the enhanced mental clarity while drinking and also the enhanced taste sensation where I could almost break down the different taste sensations and complexities of a beer and cheap wine was completely unpalatable to me. I also more recently experienced a few nights where I drank an awful lot, but importantly never to the stage of blackout, albeit I have fallen asleep while drinking quite often. This contrasts starkly with my pre TSM drinking where I would often keep drinking until I blacked out and well beyond that point. I have just spent the Easter long weekend away in a holiday home with friends and drank all three nights but went to bed each night buzzed but content not to drink myself into a stupor. Normally a weekend like this would have accounted for maybe 6 bottles of wine and a couple of six packs. This weekend I think I had 4 beers, 1 cider and probably 2 bottles of wine, which maybe seems like a lot but importantly I was never hungover and was there to do things with the kids each day. So it has been a great experience so far but I have of course one complication.......

I am also recently been diagnosed as having Adult Attention Deficit Disorder (AADD) for which I take Ritalin. AADD and Alcohol Abuse are classic co-morbid conditions, although being Irish I also have a high genetic pre-disposition towards Alcoholism so who knows? Either way I have a problem. I only take Ritalin as I need it to get things done at work such as writing boring reports or to get organised. However I am not sure how or if the Ritalin interracts with the Naltrexone. I have not been game to discuss this with my Doctor yet and thought I would seek some counsel from you guys first. Somehow I think the Ritalin is not as effective since I have been taking Naltrexone but this may of course all be in my head. Any thoughts or opinions regarding the possible interraction between these two drugs would be much appreciated.

Sorry for the long post, apologies for lurking here for so long without contributing (I suspect I am not alone) and well done to all of you for taking your lives back under control.

Welcome TSM Austere and glad you were lurking around the forum. I can't answer you question about the Ritalin and as far as I know we don't have any doctors on this forum but who knows they could be lurking around as well so why not ask your doctor about it, hopefully he'll know which way you should go with the two meds.

Keep posting and good luck on your journey

One thing no one can do here is give medical advice. We can't talk with any reliability about drug interactions, dosages, etc. I know it's hard because the vast majority of these doctors are still practicing medicine circa 1930 when it comes to alcoholism, but these questions just can't be answered reliably by non MDs.

Hi, I just registered for this forum a few minutes ago. I have been using the Sinclair Method for exactly 21 days.

I also take Naltrexone in conjunction with Ritalin. I have not noticed a decrease in the effectiveness of the Ritalin while on Naltrexone. I originally started taking the Ritalin because of AADD and a tic I have associated with mild anxiety. While I haven't noticed a decrease in effectiveness of the Ritalin, the Naltrexone seems to have amplified my tic a great deal.

Not sure if this helps at all, but I wanted you to know you're not alone and also to introduce myself.

Good luck with everything.

WAX
