I started Nal one year ago tomorrow. Prior to Nal i drank between 55-60 Uk units per week from thurs-sat. I had all the usual side effects initially and a short honeymoon effect. Gradually my overall units reduced. Then at the end of nov i went to australia on vacation for 6 weeks while there my pattern changed to every day drinking. My units were up but as this was a new experience i didn't worry. When i came back i ran out of nal and had 6-8 occasions when i drank without. However since i came back my consumption is still up- although not to pre tsm levels- its higher then it was before i left. I still can't predict how much i drink when i drink although I notice that if i drink 3 nights in a row the third night is usually low consumption. I order my nal on line and it comes from india. I have heard that medication from these sources can be inconsistent in its strength. It seems strange that i was responding (albeit slowly) to nal and now i am not. Have you come across this before?

I would be very wary of buying online meds - please read about my experience on previous post. it could have killed me and it was most likely from the same source as yours. I am on uk manufactured nal and it works well with zero side effects. you could well be right about your nal not being any good.

I believe dodgy nal may account for some not getting good results on tsm. Having said that my nightly totals are down approx 40 per cent after 10 weeks but i doubt i will be cured in 3 - 4 months. I'm in this for the long hall though and i know i will be cured on tsm.

update.....I have returned from holiday and I found my drinking did increase on some evenings. I would say my units jumped about 30 - 40% for that week. They have returned back on track since coming home on Sunday though. It may be that Nal also extinguishes the pleasure we get from alcohol in certain environments so if I was to continue drinking on holiday then in time it too would reduce.

That's a good point. Once my doc was on board with Nal, he told me that even though my cravings might be reduced when drinking alone, being in a group might be different. But it seems to me that the reduced pleasure caused by blocked opioid receptors should help take the magic out of drinking with friends as well. We'll see, I guess.
