Thought it would be appropriate to post a chart at one year out.

Image

At this point I mostly don't drink, with maybe two glasses of wine one night a week (or maybe beer now that summer's finally here in the Northwest). If I want to drink, I can. Knowing that I can choose, I mostly choose to pass.

I am definitely a creature of habit, and the habit of counting my drinks is now a positive one, rather than a despairing one. I like to keep my graph in line, so I sort of plan when I'm going to "spend" my drinks, so as to not bump my Wednesday-to-Wednesday count.

Given that my original goal was to get down and maintain at no more than 14 per week, I think I have enough slack to go wild once in a while and have a couple glasses of wine for a few days in a row. But so far, the mood to do so has not even struck.

I wish all good luck, on whatever path you find yourself.

Hey PV

Just discovered your story. I have started TSM almost a year to the day after you, and found your posts and graphs very encouraging. Similar units and habits here, so hope for me yet...

And hope you have lots to look forward to now you're set free :)

I was inspired by Bob to convert my chart over to monthly now that i'm past the year mark. For reference, my pre-TSM level was around 150/month; I started on 9-July-2009. I too am a bit surprised how it all turned out, but glad for it, and grateful beyond words.

I'm not sure there's much value in keeping on posting my charts, other than to occasionally confirm that the change was profound and lasting. I guess I was pretty much a textbook case, so I don't feel I have much to offer those who are on a different path. I do feel it's terribly important that the word get out about TSM, and so as long as folks searching for information and experiences can occasionally find evidence of success, I guess that may be the residual value.

Nicely done! I'm flattered that I inspired your switching to monthly graphs! :o

Glad TSM is still working (although I'm not surprised). Have you had any inklings of a desire to stop at all? That one snuck up on me.

Oh and thanks for stopping by and posting! I know it's tough with our new lives and all, but these newer folks need some solid facts to base their hope on.

Bob

It's absolutely helpful to those of us with different paths. It gives us hope and reminds us that this works. It's easy to forget that when it's taking longer that you'd like. at least for me it is. Thanks PV for showing this graph. and thank you too Bob. getting the word out is important, and growing this forum can be an important part of that. I know y'all are non alcoholics now so I doubly appreciate you coming by with a little positive news. i've been struggling lately and needed this

Plain Vanilla,

Thank you sincerely for posting after you have been cured. I truly believe this will be my personal solution but I will only know if I stick with it. Your posting gives me the incentive I need to do so. So far, my experience has been so different than anything I've experience pre-TSM and expect my interest in alcohol to continue to diminish. It already has!! Please keep posting. It means so much. BTDT

Thank you for posting this, PV .... it is so inspiring! And we (those still riding the TSM rollercoaster) TRULY appreciate updates from you, Bob3D and all the other cured people who continue to post to cheer us on. THANK YOU!!

(BTW - what tool did you use to make your chart? I can't seem to find one that works very well ... )

Excel (2008 Mac).

I took a lot of comfort and encouragement from this site - it helped give me something to do and kept me focused while I waited the process out. For what it's worth, I cheer every glimmer and step forward that I read about. Good luck to all!
