scot98, this is normal with the AL spiking it means the honeymoon is over but don't despair it just means that you're closer now to the finish line than you were before. Hang in there, what is happening is common with TSM.

Good luck

I agree with Corkit. Sounds like you are having the "extinction burst" (search the term here if you don't know it). It's all part of the non-linear path out of misery.

Hang in there.

My best,

Nick

Damn. I hate to hear it but from what I've seen it's all part of the gig. Keep it up man. I'm rooting for you.

Hi, I haven't posted in a few weeks, I was on holiday for a week and this turned into a fortnight due to the flight cancellations in Europe. I was very lucky as I was down to my last Nal tab, bit of a panic as I would have had to detox as there is no way I would drink without taking Nal. Thankfully I got back home and had a new order waiting for me.

My drinking is still at a fairly high level, though still less than before TSM, trying to stay positive and praying that in the next few weeks my units go down again. Cravings are a bit worse now too sadly. I am finding the wine flowing much easier and managing to drink the first bottle in around an hour or so, kind off back to pre TSM, oh well I just need to stick with it.
I knew it wasn't going to be plain sailing from the start.
I didn't calculate my units for the 2 weeks I was away though I would say they would be around the 110 units a week, certainly not much higher than current levels.

All the best :)

Wine drinkers tend to meet with success far longer than after 3-4 months, from our experience here. Hang in there and don't forget patience is essential. The chances are great that this will work for you.

Encouragement from here too, Scott. Hang in there - we wine drinkers seem to be a bit harder to cure, but there are many it has worked for & you sound like one of them. :-)

Thanks for the encouragement, it does help when you start questioning yourself about what I am trying to achieve. This week was interesting, as a couple of evenings the vino was not flowing well at all, tuesday I only had a bottle and went to bed, so at least the Nal is still having a positive effect.
I am sticking with this for the long haul, hey I would be mad to drop out now! If anything Naltrexone has been a godsend even the way things are at the moment and even if I don't get 'cured' I will never drink without taking Nal beforehand.

Cheers and best wishes

Hi,
Well just had my 17th week now on Naltrexone, 4 months on. My drinking is still fairly high without any real fluctuation so I have stopped adding up the units as there doesn't seem much point if I am drinking pretty much the same on a daily basis.
I am finding this quite tough going but it's still a lot better than if I wasn't taking the Nal, so will stick with it for a few more months.
I am planning seeing an Alcohol specialist Psychiatrist, as he has had a fair number of patients on Naltrexone and is also trialing Baclofen, so will be interesting to hear his opinion. It may also save me a fortune if I can get Nal on prescription.

Best to all

Hi all,

Well that is nearly 6 months of me following TSM religiously and afraid to say since April my consumption has been pretty much constant, I am really disappointed, has cost me a fortune between buying AL and NAL and if I am be really honest with myself, I need to try something else, whatever that may be. I was so praying that this would be a massive help with ending my addiction but sadly I don't think this will be the case.
Naltrexone is though, a VERY helpful drug, there is NO way I could have carried on drinking without the Nal, more clarity, not really had any blackouts as such, more stable mood, works wonders on my restless legs syndrome, greatly reduced tremors, less craving and just an overall more manageable life............but one I cannot carry on with the way things are given my consumption, 2 bottles of red a day.

I have Baclofen wich I had bought before deciding to start TSM so I may introduce this and see if the combination helps reduce my intake. I very much doubt Baclofen in itself will "cure" my problem as I seriously doubt I could handle the Side effects of high dosage bac...and hold down my job.
It is great to hear how others are experiencing great benefits from TSM, I certainly hope this post does not discourage anyone, my personal belief is that Naltrexone should be prescribed for anyone concerned about their drinking, it certainly does seem to work for many. Here's hoping some pharmaceutical companies are working on something that will work for most, if not all alcoholics.

Best wishes to all.

Scot

scot, so sorry to hear of your lack of progress, before quitting, maybe look at some of the cured folks' stories. some of them who were hardcore drinkers for a long time took 9 months to be cured. I'm planning on giving it a year before I hang it up. but I have been fortunate enough to see more results than you have. good luck with whatever you decide
