As Lena points out, it isn't important how you calculate the units, but that you do it the same every time. For example: 1 bottle of wine = 6 units, 1 beer = 2 units, etc. If you do a search on google, you'll find tables that list all sorts of different drinks with units attached to them. Pick one of these tables and print it out.
Most of us drink (drank) the same thing most of the time, so once you put units to this, it's pretty easy to track. For me, it was red wine. I never did try to track my progress right to the single unit. It was more along the lines of: I drank 2 bottles of wine last night, so 12 units; 1 1/2 bottles of wine, so 9 units. Make sense?
