As many of you know, I recently applied for Life Insurance and was denied due to a prescription I received from my Dr for TSM. When I obtained the prescription, I didn't give my Dr. much in the way of details, but did give him a couple chapters from Dr. Eskapa's book

I'm 39yrs, fairly good shape, good stats, no medical issues. When I applied for Life Insurance several months back I was denied. The reason given was my "history of alcohol and recent naltrexone use."

Following a suggestion by Lena, I decided to order my MIB record to see what the insurnace companies had recorded about me. Remember, MIB is very much like a credit reporting agency, but keeps medical information the insurance companies report when you apply for insurance.

Here's my record:

"Alcohol, use significant to health or longevity. No treatment, or treatment other than admission to a medical or medically related facility, or active in support group. Information obtained from licensed physicians or medically related facilities. Current or within the last year to application."

So much for HEPA huh??? This is a semi-publicly available database. Supposedly, only qualified members can view the information and only when reviewing you for insurance. I'm sure with some google searching and with a credit card, I could get access to this database.

Sadly this record is going to follow me now for 7-10 years.

Grrrrrrrrrrr . . . . . Anyone up for a class action against someone?

Q, this sounds as though you are being thumped because you are not going through some 12-Step Program . . . .

An unfounded credit report slam is actionable libel. Dissing someone based on non-participation in a treatment modality yielding a less-than-five-percent-success rate should, by analogy, be libelous. Especially when that someone -- YOU, Q, successfully were treated with a modality yielding a 78% success rate.

I am just so effin pissed off. This is sickening.

Please pm me, Q.

~Q~,

The same thing has happened to me. I'm a healthy, single mother with two young children and was just denied life insurance. The reason? "Substance Abuse." I've been a drinker for years but never taken other drugs. Furthermore, I ordered my N from River Pharmacy, hoping to avoid this "stigma." I can only guess that I've been classifed as a substance abuser based on a conversation I've had with my doctor about my wine consumption and intention to start TSM.

Lena, you're right; it is sickening and I would be up for any and all legal action.

What a bunch of scumbags. You spent months, got to the cure, and are totally abstinent from Al and they treat you like this? I hope we get this healthcare thing fixed. It's been broken for far too long. Very sorry to hear this Q
