Received my Naltrexone from India a week ago. They come in packs of 10, are reddish-yellow, made by Intas Pharmaceuticals, and are sold under the name Naltima-50. I took the first one last Tuesday, and the effects were very noticeable. The first beer went down like normal but after that I slowed down to about a beer an hour. I feel like I could have drink water instead of beer all week, but I wanted to stick with the equation.
I have experienced some side effects, but they have been tolerable and the bad ones are starting to go away. When I first take the pill I get an “odd” feeling. I wouldn't describe it as being tired or sleepy, but I yawn and stretch, and my eyelids get heavy. It's like my body is saying it's time to take a nap, but if I lay down I can't go to sleep. It was really bad the first two days, it is still noticeable but has gotten better since then. The second side effect is morning insomnia. I was waking up 2 hours early, staying awake for and hour, then sleeping for an hour. Just like the other side effect, it has lessened in intensity over the week. I still wake up 2 hours early, but it only takes a few minutes to go back to sleep. The third side effect I hope never goes away. MY SHAKY HANDS ARE GONE! This was the main reason I wanted to cut back or quit drinking. The tremors just started getting bad a few months ago, but are now gone about 95% of the time.
On Sunday, I took my pill, but decided to hit the bike trail instead of drinking. I know I shouldn't have taken it before exercising, but it was a last-minute decision. Nal didn't make the ride un-enjoyable or any less fun. I am looking forward to having a wash-out day and then riding with all these new receptors in my head.
This week easily would have been a 120+ units, the final number was 78. Sticking with my pre-TSM guess of 100 units/week that is still a 22% reduction or 2420 calories. That is one full day of calories. As I said earlier in this post, I could easily have drunk less. I think this week I will drink a few beers per night then switch to water. For the most part, I am drinking around a beer an hour. Your body should be able to oxidize a drink an hour, so I am not going to bed drunk anymore.
