Received my Naltrexone from India a week ago. They come in packs of 10, are reddish-yellow, made by Intas Pharmaceuticals, and are sold under the name Naltima-50. I took the first one last Tuesday, and the effects were very noticeable. The first beer went down like normal but after that I slowed down to about a beer an hour. I feel like I could have drink water instead of beer all week, but I wanted to stick with the equation.

I have experienced some side effects, but they have been tolerable and the bad ones are starting to go away. When I first take the pill I get an “odd” feeling. I wouldn't describe it as being tired or sleepy, but I yawn and stretch, and my eyelids get heavy. It's like my body is saying it's time to take a nap, but if I lay down I can't go to sleep. It was really bad the first two days, it is still noticeable but has gotten better since then. The second side effect is morning insomnia. I was waking up 2 hours early, staying awake for and hour, then sleeping for an hour. Just like the other side effect, it has lessened in intensity over the week. I still wake up 2 hours early, but it only takes a few minutes to go back to sleep. The third side effect I hope never goes away. MY SHAKY HANDS ARE GONE! This was the main reason I wanted to cut back or quit drinking. The tremors just started getting bad a few months ago, but are now gone about 95% of the time.

On Sunday, I took my pill, but decided to hit the bike trail instead of drinking. I know I shouldn't have taken it before exercising, but it was a last-minute decision. Nal didn't make the ride un-enjoyable or any less fun. I am looking forward to having a wash-out day and then riding with all these new receptors in my head.

This week easily would have been a 120+ units, the final number was 78. Sticking with my pre-TSM guess of 100 units/week that is still a 22% reduction or 2420 calories. That is one full day of calories. As I said earlier in this post, I could easily have drunk less. I think this week I will drink a few beers per night then switch to water. For the most part, I am drinking around a beer an hour. Your body should be able to oxidize a drink an hour, so I am not going to bed drunk anymore.

Sounds like it is definitely working for you. Congrats. Don't be surprised if your drinking temporarily spikes back up, but TSM does work for the vast majority who try it.

The Honeymoon continues! 54 units this week. Based on my pre-TSM number of 100, that is 2 days worth of calories that I didn't drink this week.

I still feel like I “need” the first one, but after that a beer will last for 1-2 hours. An AF is not anywhere in my immediate future, but I had 4 “alcohol neutral” days. Drinking less than a unit an hour lets me go to bed sober which is a new experience in itself. All the negative side effects are gone, but I get to keep the steady hands.

I'm expecting a sharp jump in my units this week. I've taken Friday off to make it a four-day Memorial Day weekend. If I can keep it under 100 units by my next update I will consider it a victory.

great. don't be discouraged if you spike or go too far on a night or four. I was well aware of the spike but still got a little bummed at puking twice. and don't drive!!!! good luck :D

I continue to be impressed with Nal. I was expecting this week to be a sharp increase due to a four-day weekend. Surprisingly, I only drank 2 more units than last week for a total of 56. I'm averaging under a unit per hour, and haven't gone to bed intoxicated any this week. The scary fact is that I spent at least 56 hours within arms reach of a beer. Looking back on my numbers for the past 3 weeks, I noticed that my max number of units per night have gone from 15 to 13 to 10.

I also have a “first-ever” accomplishment to report with mixed emotions. This past week a ½ bottle of Cabernet Franc, a ¼ bottle of Chardonnay, and half a beer have been emptied into my sink. The only time I have ever poured out any form of alcohol was due to it being spoiled when I opened it. The beer was forgotten about and discovered the next day. The two sacrifices to Dionysus were due to disinterest. I had a glass out of each bottle, and had no desire to finish the bottle.

I'm in need of some advice from you long-term'ers. Alldaychemist is having problems with their Mastercard processor, and has yet to ship my meds. I have 10 days of pills left, and am facing a 1-4 day gap, depending upon when they actually ship. Do you guys think it is better to drink during the gap with no Nal, or take 25mg on my light days to stretch out my supply?

We (my husband) had that very same problem and decided to stretch the supply by halving the pills. I felt like it would at least "hold his place" in the progress. There is something called "upregulation" (might want to search that word on the forum in case my explanation is faulty) where the brain isn't getting the endorphin reward it wants from the alcohol so there is a temporary increase in receptors. If you drink during that increase, it can set you WAY back in progress.

I'm not sure the 25mg helped all that much for my husband but I think it was better than drinking without the nal.

I agree with Tbloom. upregulation could really screw you. if you take an AF day you are supposed to do something healthy the next day as the Nal is out of your system and you are more open to an endorphin rush. if you drink without Nal on that day you would support your habit even more than before TSM. that's my 2cents

Take 25 mg and try to drink within 6 hours of taking it and you'll be fine.

Thank you guys for answering my question last week. 25Mg worked fine for my weekday drinking sessions. I've ordered 3 months worth from ADC that should be here the end of this week. I hope to never be in a short situation again, but half a pill works fine for 6 hours or less.

I think I have hit the bare minimum in units until I can have an AF day. I'm down to a very impressive 45 units this week. I don't really have cravings anymore, but it is still a habit that I have a few beers when I get home. The majority of my consumption is now concentrated on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. For the past few weeks, the only day I exceed 1 unit/hr is Friday, and even then I top out at 1.4 units/hour. For me to get anything more than a buzz it would take several hours of 3+ an hour.

Between my office and my house is a convenience store that I normally stop at everyday to pick up some beer for the evening. There has been a few times over the past 2 weeks that I have driven past the place thinking that I had “enough” in the fridge. I don't think I have ever had “enough” at home in the past 10 years.

I'm going to a large wine festival hosted by my alumni group this weekend. Normally, this would be two days of heavy drinking. I'm hoping I can keep it under 60 units this week. I have a question for you wine drinkers, according to my math a 750ml bottle should be 6-7 units (US), is this close to what you guys use?

This stuff just takes all the enjoyment out of drinking. Had an AF due to work, but it still counts. Had a 17 unit Saturday due to an alumni group reunion, a good dinner, and the UFC fight. I never got sloppy, but I'm sure I would have drunk a lot more without the Nal.

Every week I am expecting my units to go up, but they keep going down. I drank 42 units this week. If I would have had a normal Saturday I would have been in the 30's this week.
