You know, this stuff doesn't taste as good as I thought. It tastes like rotten fruit.

And it makes me tired.

I already care less for wine, but desperately miss the energized, creative, outgoing feeling it used to create. Does that "craving" go away in time?

Do I sound a little lackluster? That's because I've had two glasses of wine (such a party animal! ), and it has taken me over four hours to finish them, and I am drowsy and de-energized, with a purple tongue and a sicky fruit taste in my mouth.

To summarize my first nine days, I would describe Naltrexone's effects as "destabilizing" of my normal drinking pattern. Without the immediate pleasure of those first few sips, I've been off-kilter about when to start drinking, how fast or slow to drink, and when to stop. The rituals established over a quarter-century are in a rubble.

I'm longing for something, but repulsed by my beloved wine.

Hello,
(upon reading the next day, I should've read a little closer. You weren't romanticizing....interesting how even 5 drinks can make you sloppy and impaired even if not drunk....Edit April 29 :P )

Even if you don't have a severe problem, TSM can work for those of us that want to cut back. So know this,...we support you 100%. Nal + 60 minutes + drinking + patience=cure

I was a very heavy drinker (alcoholic) and and currently month 8 drinking less,.,...at 11.45 PM 5 drinks in, and a little pot. Normally I'd be passed out or halfway there....now I'm buzzed that's it,..I can post this with no fear.....My wife is here and we're chatting...not pre -tsm...

Wish that I wasn't smoking (the pot).....oh well,...if it gets me away from AL so be it...BEst, Jim

I felt the very same about my wine on nal. The taste was not as good and it took ages to drink it. That is part of the honeymoon and does wear off somwhat for a while.

As Houtx says method working, congratulations. Stick with it.

Sounds very encouraging, really. I did sort of go through a phase of missing the soft, easy release of that first drink. But as time goes on, we make room for new, better habits to creep in and take residence. Racing home to pour a glass of wine is not the only way to decompress from a day at work, I finally realized. (In the truest sense of the word 'realize' - to make real.) Now spending a few minutes getting kissed by the dogs and dispensing a few belly rubs offers much the same release, and allows me to shift gears for the day.

That is fabulous that you're losing your taste for wine. I haven't had a drink or naltrexone since Saturday night. I am not cured by any means. I have been drinking to excess on weekends (usually starting on Thursday night) for years. However, I did notice that it took me a lot longer to finish my drinks last weekend. I am sure I'm just in that honeymoon stage, and have a lot of months ahead of me before I truly kick my weekend wine binges to the curb. I do think the Nal must be doing some of its magic already, though.

All the best to Lady and the rest of you.

I guess these experiences are pretty typical of the famed "honeymoon." But you know, we could also think of the "honeymoon" as "proof of concept." Proof that we CAN drink less, CAN crave less.

It may be two steps forward and one back for a while, but the honeymoon proves that reduction in drinking can be achieved.

And 'ya know, that is Very Big News to me!!! :D

P.S. It's great to have you all to share this experience.

Sometimes, there is a point around cure-time that you may get that yucky taste again. I know Firebird and I experienced it as well as some others, although not necessarily with wine. We described it as taking your favorite beverage, adding paint thinner and trying to enjoy it. I still get that bad taste from time to time over a year into treatment, in fact as recently as Monday, when I had just one beer and that was enough. I actually rinsed my mouth out with ice tea to kill the after-taste and brushed my teeth afterward.

I hope it works for you, too. You deserve it.
