I don't entirely disagree BGH. I am certainly spreading the word to my family, friends and anyone else who is interested in learning about the first legitimate treatment for alcoholism in history. And I agree that many (or even most) in the AA crowd will initially turn a blind eye to TSM. However, the fact is, the vast majority who try AA fail -- as much as 95%. I just read one study that says 90% of the people who attend an AA meeting are so turned off they don't go back for a second one. Given AA's abysmal record, I see absolutely zero downside to putting the idea of a pharmacological treatment in the heads of the millions who have tried AA and failed miserably. They may initially reject TSM out of hand, but when they relapse -- as they almost surely will because of the deprivation effect -- they will remember what they heard about TSM and naltrexone and may very well want to give it a try. So, I will continue to spread the word wherever I go, whether it be on the net with AA-types, or with anyone I run into in my personal life who is interested in learning something about a legitimate treatment for alcoholism. The days of the Hocus Pocus of AA are numbered.

Well stated Nick.

I feel the same way about the TSM. With respect to the SoberRecovery type crowd, I think the best thing we can do is "lead by example" and kill them with kindness. In time, they will see that those of us who have seen success with TSM are truly cured of our addiction and people will turn to TSM.

What Nick said, but as I see it the purpose of talking about it in those forums is not to convert successful 12 steppers, or convert anybody. Successful abstainers are not recommended for TSM anyway. I see it as a way to let the newcomers, relapsers and curious lurkers know there is another option. The 12 step machine tends to railroad people into thinking theirs is the only way. and they have in their literature (which they believe is infallible) that anybody who can be honest will be successful with AA. well this is not true. people need help. that's the point. the more visible these options are, the better for recovery as a whole

Joe

saw your posts over there...more power to you my friend...I cant deal with salem witch trial mentality there anymore...I havent been there in like a couple of months..loggn in and a couple of ignorant PM's so I had to ask about the advertising peice...sad they are so closed minded...if someone IS going to relapse..why shouldn't they at least have the info on Nal and TSM? Who cares how a person gets sober or in control of their drinking? I have a good friend in AA..he has been in the program for like 20+ years..I told him about TSM and he was like "cool thanks I got a guy who keeps relasping maybe this is his answer". The end result is what matters - freedom from the hell of alcoholism. I like MWO and am so glad I found that site in the begining...they turned me on to this place and Nal TSM

Good Thread. I got banned from the site on both my IP addresses for that one. I couldn't help but get a little pissy at the way those assholes were acting. I got one going on cyberrecovery.net and the people there are very nice and receptive, if skeptical. I can understand skeptical but those soberrecovery bastards just shout you down and call you names. and their arguments are mostly flimsy BB quotes. then they ban you for disruption, trolling while letting the name calling go on from other members. that forum leader CarolID is clearly afraid of the changes.

I went over to cyberrecovery (with 2 r's :D ) and read Joe's post and Nicks. I decided not to join the site at this time so it doesn't look like an invasion. That would be counter-productive.

Looks like there's at least a dialogue going, although some of the responses people give show their lack of knowledge of the method. One poster (forgot his name) was talking about basing a treatment on one study isn't the way to go (or something along those lines). I wish I could reach across the internet and grab him and say look at me! I'm cured! I'm a real person, one of many, who have there lives back with no effort and just a magic pill taken correctly and consistently. I am not a study or a theory. This is the real McCoy. You have nothing to lose when you relapse (and you will relapse as a 12-stepper, sooner or later). Try it and get cured! ...but of course you can't do that (the wire is to small ;) ). The poster doesn't know us from Adam. As far as he can tell, he probably thinks we have an agenda or money-making scheme we're pushing, whereas all we want to do is get people to try TSM and get it rolling as a main-stream treatment. We have absolutely nothing to gain except the good feeling that we helped humanity and helped save some lives and suffering.

Bob
