I have written and sent 3 times and each one has gone pffffttt - last try

Probably because i am so semi-blotto!! And on 4 glasses of wine WITHOUT Naltrexone. That's what I am trying to get on here and say - this medicine works!! Today I had a horrible, terrible, very bad day. Blew off my workout and everything else because it was so bad it included a gazillion frustrating phone calls, fear, frustration, crying, etc. By the time I left work it was almost 6 and I forgot to take NAL until I was on the way home. So 10 minutes later, glass #1, then 30 min later, glass #2 and feeling really zonkered!! Slowed down w/ the rest of #2 but it occured to me how slammed I felt.

#3 an hour later, it's like I've had a bottle! I swear drinking w/o NAL is the reason. It's happened a couple of times before but tonight the extreme feeling of intoxication is just sooooooo weird! This stuff works. It may not have cured me, but I definitely do not get as drunk or feel the effects like I did before I started taking it. In a year, I have only missed a day on NAL a few times. I've felt some effects but not so much as tonight.

I am going to keep taking it only out of faith, knowing SOMETHING is happening. I swear - it's weird, but I know that's why I feel so loopy. BAC is on the way and hoping with the both of them at work...I will be living in true 3D blu-ray & HD!

TGIF!!!!! :-))

houtx -- You are an angel, the way you continue to cheer everyone else on. You welcome and encourage the newcomers and celebrate the successes of the veterans. You are quick with words of comfort when someone's spirits are flagging. And you have been incredibly patient while waiting for the cure that has eluded you. I'm glad you recognize that you've gotten some benefit from the naltrexone. I have great confidence that the "cocktail" of naltrexone and baclofen will be the answer for you. You deserve it!!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing your experiences houtx. I hope the BAC works for you and will be checking your progress in case NAL doesn't completely extinct my addiction. Hey! I know I'm new here, but what about a relationship category on the board? Drinkers have tons of experience in failed relationships and maybe we could help each other by avoiding pitfalls. It seems there are already too many categories for how many people frequent the board that adding one would be a cluster. but what about replacing one with a personal problems for alcoholics thread? just an idea?

Thx Lena & Joe for the responses. For some reason just now seeing them. I am on Week 3 of Bac, having worked my up to now taking 30mgs/day. So far no SEs and no other differences. As noted, trying to remember to take it is the prob. I'm in the habit of taking Nal one hour before, HABIT. Trying to remember to take BAC @ lunchtime is eluding me the last few days since starting that 1st dose at that time.

I'm sticking w/ NAL while adding BAC to see if that is the magic elixir for me. If it works, and I haven't heard a single negative yet, then I will definitely deal with the fact of taking several pills several times a day. It just kills me the fact neither Hollywood nor, of course, the medical community has gotten wind of this watching "Grey's Anatomy" and the Chief's struggle w/ his drinking. It just KILLS me! Hearing about anyone struggling with it just kills me these days. Why isn't it OUT THERE?!?! There are medicines that work!!! Makes me crazy this isn't on GMA, 60 Minutes, 20/20...

Maybe later. Maybe our struggles will be the revolutionary overhaul of the addiction/cure industry in the future. Hope I live to see it.

CHEERS! :-)
XO

Yeah it bugs the hell out of me as well, Im a member of another quit site, i was posting there for the 2.5 years I was sober before I relapsed and went on TSM. Ive met with all sorts of negative attitutes from what you would think would be the very people who would have been dancing on the streets at the knowledge that finally there is a pill out there that helps. People I thought were friends have dissappeared. I go in their journals and they are strugling every day with sobriety and I want to SCREAM at them to try it. Why is it so impossible to believe that science could have come up with a cure?. The only thing I can make sense of is the for someone who has put years of effort into staying sober its probally a kick in the teeth to hear that it could have been done with a pill. I keep posting there though and will continue to.

Im so so keeping my fingers crossed for you with the bac. No one deserves it more than you.

Eyes Forward

Mario

houtx, wow I'm so happy for you and NO SE, YEAH! You're on your way. I've found the same thing that if you go really slow there shouldn't be any SE. Today I started at 90mg, so we'll see how that goes. One thing I noticed when I was on the 70mg is that I drank way less that week than normal and it wasn't hard at all, like it was normal does that make sense?

This summer we'll be sipping lemonade on the beach and I don't mean the hard kind

Gosh, I hope so, corkit! I sent you a PM earlier.

Thx Mario for your support. It's all la vida loca - but I am soooooo grateful for this site and the fact I can come here and feel sooooooooo much better when I am feeling especially low...as do many others. This site has grown by leaps and bounds in the last year+. So happy for that.
XO
