Well, I'm letting myself "cheat" and visit here today, since my work project is (finally) nearly a wrap. I cannot believe how much I've missed in the past several weeks - especially this GREAT news! Congratulations Firebird!

Your idea to reach out to Native Americans is awesome. One of my cousins is a regional Chief of the Cherokee nation, and I cannot wait to get in touch with him on this. Not coincidentally, I think, he's been in touch with this branch of the family for the first time in years. . .(we used to be very close, as children). He's a very creative, progressive sort of guy - he's gonna love this.

Rock on, FB!

Man That's Awesome! it's totally inspiring me to keep on. and it gives me a little hope that maybe I'll be cured an 5 months or so. but if not, I'll keep taking the NAL.

I really love hearing about your intentions of sharing this with the Native American community. They need it more than anyone and it could be a great place to spread the word. One guy on the RES gets cured, and his friends and relatives see it firsthand, and the whole damn RES might follow suit. Wouldn't that be groovy? I am new here but I feel like a part of something special. You people make me happy. Thanks! :D

And I love it when I see a post that I forgot about s I was just getting started in september and I may not have even seen this post actually,....I too love the thought of reaching out to Native Americans.

I lived in LAwrence Kansas for 15 years, graduated from KU. But there was Haskell Indian Junior College. And they even made me an honorary member of the band as they needed a piano player for there stage band. I got to wear a uniform shirt and felt so much love and pride being a part of it. Always felt sad though when I would see a poor Native American loaded. I think I can get a book to the college though,..I just wonder,..How do I avoid the "Here's the white guy to save you" vibe....y'know what I mean? I guess if I go with an open heart there is certainly nothing patronizing by acknowledging the pain and suffering that evil disease has done to the peoples native here.....

Also, I guess the reason they were more susceptible was that they were only introduced to teh "Firewater" 150 years ago or so. And under evil circumstances. Think of how many times they must have been given booze as a "Gift" from our "fill in your favorite evil adjective with explorers/fore fathers" and signed away the land....ughhhh...>Sickens me....

Anways,..I'm going to google reservations here in the North East. I mean I know I can go to the casinos in Connecticut and the museum there is incredible in Mashantucket. ....

Anyways,...thanks Firebird...Jim

What is it about week 21? That's three cures I count so far for that week, including Mrs. Bobandcarol. :)

Perhaps purely coincidence. But it also may be the mean point on a bell curve (Gaussian distribution) for cure time. We don't have enough data to produce this curve yet, but it does appear that at least anecdotally, that the mean is somewhere around 21 weeks.

The week 21 does seem to be a magic number for some, but once again we don't want people to get discouraged if they don't see success in a particular time frame. We all get different milage on this one.

I still dream of bringing this to the Native American community, but I ran into some pretty stiff resistance when I mentioned it to people I know (not on this board). I think the path is to get better general acceptance and understanding of TSM in the community at large before concentrating on a particular group.

Still I would love to hear any ideas people have.

My personal view is that it will have to be mainstreamed from within the conventional medical community. I want it to be viewed as almost malpractice to fail to offer a treatment with this degree of efficacy early in the treatment chain.

Pretty much exactly as is done today with high cholesterol and statins. "Your cholesterol is high. Have you tried moderating your diet and exercising? No improvment? OK, let's get you on a statin and get those numbers down."

"Have you tried cutting back on the drinking on your own? No luck? OK, let's try nine months of Nal and see if we can get this under control."

Statins aren't the answer for everyone, and neither is Nal. But both are so overwhelmingly, obviously effective in so many cases that absent any contraindications it's negligent to overlook them as an option . Grrrrrrr.
