Dear Dr Eskapa,
I have been on the Sinclair programme for four months and am fully in line with the recovery curve presented in your book, The Cure for Alcoholism.
I am writing to you because I have found myself the subject of discrimination due to the widespread ignorance of treatment with Naltrexone. I applied for, and was chosen for, a good job with an EU agency. Their offer, however, was subject to passing a pre-recruitment medical check-up. The examining doctor declared me unfit for work because I am still drinking (on Naltrexone of course) despite having been confirmed chemically dependent (and going through rehab in November 2009). I am currently gathering evidence for an appeal and would greatly appreciate any help you can provide in this matter.
I appreciate that you are busy, however this job is a vital part of my continued recovery (apart from which the EU's medical services should really be familiar with the Sinclair treatment method). As such, I would be extremely grateful for any documentary or other information you could provide—precedents, legal decisions, previous EU decisions, the current recognition status of TSM in EU states etc., that would help me in my appeal (scheduled for April 28). I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate and thank you for your book and the contribution it has made to the betterment of so many lives.
Yours sincerely,
Mindreader

Mindreader,

I'm very saddened to read this post. To be denied a job for this is ludicrous. If you had continued to hide your problem and never voluntarily sought treatment to better your own life, you'd have that job right now.

First, Eskapa may not read this forum. Try contacting him through his book publisher (http://thecureforalcoholism.com/ under the Media heading) or directly on Facebook (just search for Roy Eskapa).

Second, in this instance I suggest you follow the American way: hire a lawyer. Find out what lawyers and firms handle discrimination appeals for government jobs and give them a call.
