Hello, all. I've gone to a good many AA meetings in my 61-year-old life and have never made it work for me. Something about the idea of accepting that I'm totally broken and need to be rebuilt from the ground up. And then I picked up Dr. Eskapa's book and began reading. I have a newfound hope! Does anyone know of any TSM-friendly doctors in the Chicago area? Thanks.

I'd recommend finding an adult psychiatrist with a specialization in addiction (maybe 3 hours of phone calls, even in a city that size)

If you can explain the process like a rational adult, the doctor would be nuts not to give it a try (prior knowledge or not) .

The liver check is a must of course but they did take an oath to help and not harm.

:0)

Roy Eskapa suggested this link a while ago, and many here have had good luck finding a doc through it. It's for suboxone doctors, which means they are qualified to prescribe this rx med for opiate addicts and likely are addiction specialists. This drug is not for TSM but it has some properties similar to naltrexone so suboxone docs may at least be familiar with naltrexone if not TSM. But they tend to be handy with a prescription pad. Just type in your zip code -- there are many in the Chicago area.

Best of luck and let us know how you're doing.

Thank you for your help, lena. But I don't see the link. And when I check out the link I just put in my zip. "...Handy with a prescription pad means to you that they're very willing to write a prescription for naltrexone? Thanks again, lena. round1

Oops!! Here's the link
http://www.suboxone.com/patients/resour ... octor.aspx
It can be tough explaining to doctors that you want to continue drinking on naltrexone. It's very counter-intuitive if they are not familiar with TSM. And the instructions in the package insert are a mess. Eskapa explains this in the book. Some members here have just told the doctor they want to have a scrip fornaltrexone to help stop drinking without going into much detail. And addiction specialists, from what we've learned by our common experience, tend to be more likely to just write a scrip without a lot of questions. We all have to decide for ourselves whether to involve an m.d. and, if so, how much we want to disclose. Good luch and keep posting!
