Hi, this is my first time posting here, I've appreciated all the info I've taken in from this board over the past couple of months, For me the combination of the book, this website and a pharmacy in India has given me the most optimism I've ever had about changing my vodka-soaked life. One month in and it seems to be working so far.

I haven't found any answer to this in searching the posts here or in the book, I am not clear on a detail of the suggested drinking diary laid out in the book: the "drinking session number".

At first I was recording this just as numbering each session 1,2,3,4.... and then I thought, well, that's not very useful information, how does it help me to know that after 6 mos. I've had 96 drinking sessions (or whatever) in total? I figure a more useful thing to track would be alcohol units per week divided by sessions per week, to see how close I'm getting to that moderate drinking upper limit of 5 units during any drinking session.

So, I use the "session #" column to keep a tally of how many sessions have happened in a week, and have added a "units/session" column to calculate and keep track of that average value at each week's totalling up.

Does this make sense? Am I missing a reason to be using that "drinking session number" column differently?

Thanks!

Hello TSB and welcome!

Some people choose to record numbers and other find it counterproductive. I record because I'll never realize my consumption is going down if I don't and it's also a good monitor for me. If you aren't a daily drinker and want to record your numbers, the number of days per week that you drink and the number of drinks you have on those days should be a good record for you to track your progress. I think I was understanding from what you wrote that you were going to average your units over the week. Maybe you would learn more about your consumption if you tracked drinks on an individual session basis. Yu might find that there are days that you tend to drink more and learn what triggers set that off - just a suggestion!

Best of luck.

Hi tsp,

I am a daily drinker, and also find the data taking tedious. When starting TSM, began buying 1.75 liter bottles of Burnets 100p Vodka. Pretty boring stuff, but if I am trying to quit, why buy expensive scotch? One bottle is about 50 Eskapa units. I make a sharpie mark at the start and note the level at the end and voila = weekly units. It's close enough and not much trouble. I think it is important to track weekly units, but this is the least tedious way to do it.

Welcome to the board. Hang in there, and keep posting.
