It seems that I am mistaken regarding the time Naltrexone effectively blockades opioid receptors. I suppose you were covered in your example. My wife is taking her Nal before drinking sessions and will continue to do so, but it seems that timing the length of coverage is acceptable too.

I know an a$$load about naltrexone half-life and 6 beta naltrexol half-life and actual receptor coverage versus plasma half-life and everything that goes along with it. We could have a conversation about it but we've already discussed it many times at length on this board. It's your decision and your life. Doing that is breaking the golden rule.

Regardless of what we may or may not know about receptor coverage (which shows a much different picture than just plasma half life), no studies have ever been done that show show that doing that is a successful strategy.

We might be able to get away with timing dosages like that. I'm not going to try it, I don't want to waste another year of my life.

I've never been that close either, thank goddess. I was out tonight with my monthly group of dinner galpals. Eight yrs. ago one of our group died from septic/toxic shock - directly related to accute drinking. None of us knew the extent of her problem. I could go into great details, 3 of us have known her since HS, knew she drank but didn't think it was any worse than any of us...well, not really. We were amazed, but thought as we grew older she had gotten better what with marriage, kids, etc. But as the years went on...more incidents of Mary being **** faced, getting fired, not remembering things, being injured...(me always thinking "there but for the grace of god...") especially after she got divorced in late '90s.

Anyway, she went into rehab and within 30 days, sobered up but her body suffered terribly. She looked like paste - horrible when she got out. I was so taken aback. You'd think a person would look all refreshed and wide-eyed. Mary looked like a zombie, her complexion was orange, strange. I'll never forget it. She hadn't been out another 30 days and struggling like crazy to stay sober...when some virus worked its way in, attacked and killed her within about 3 days!! It was devastating. We've talked about it ever since. April 15, 2002.

Same thing had happened to my mother about 2 months before. The thing about Mary was, we later found out she had HUGE amounts of bile that backed up into her system that also contributed to her death, and her coloring due to that bile at her death was near black (!!) and thus a closed casket. YUCK!! We who knew her, had no idea the extent of her drinking! She was always worse than any of us...but no clue really. I often think about her and wonder if NAL or BAC could've possibly helped her. It was talking about her with my galpals and our own drinking patterns some months ago that made me come out with my use of NAL. They were fascinated and very supportive. All of them thinking of other friends they wanted to tell about this.

I don't talk about it much more with them, I just am my usual serene, controlled self. But it has definitely come up & they ask questions, praise what they see and want to know more. I have not mentioned BAC yet, just b/c I haven't gotten a word in edgewise yet w/ talk of kids' weddings, etctetctetc :-))

When the opportunity arises, I will. Forgot my point...death/cancer/death/drinking. Cheery thoughts indeed...We are here - Cheers!

A quick question, all my drinking is normally on a Friday and Saturday night spread over a time period of 4 hours at the very most. Would 25mgs cover me for this period. What Ive read from the doctor seems to suggest that I would be covered 100% during this time period, am I reading it right?. At the minute Im taking 50mgs and will continue unless I can be sure of it being otherwize but there is no point in taking mor medicaation than I need so I would like to know.

Unless you have a compelling reason to reduce your dosage (such as running low on medication), I wouldn't risk altering the suggested dosage. It's completely understandable that you wouldn't want to take more than you have to, but the down side of taking too little seems to be much riskier than taking more than you need.

Ok progress reprort,

Last two weekends were pretty much the same, 4 glasses of wine on Friday and 4 on Saturday. I took a nal on Sunday but didnt end up having anything. Very happy with progress, however on Friday night I had stronger than normal cravings. I had two glases before a small amount of food and then went to a concert. I was anxious for the interval for a glass of wine. This bugged me as it reminded me of pre nal drinking. I had the glass of wine but it kind of was in my head for the rest of the concert. However when we got home I just had one more glass even though there was plenty more wine in the house I didnt want anymore so that calmed me down again. I suppose because cravings and consumption have been so low I expect to always feel the same.

Thank God and Sinclair for Nal
