I understand it is not necessary to compare but I did my numbers as best as I could so I am just curious.....

I am counting a bottle of white wine @ 9 units (that was @ 2 bottles daily with additional drinks per week) and a guess for the other drinks I had in the past.

So with my calcs. it looks like my drinking was way higher than others, but I know that's not true, so
what gives?

Can you say what country you live in and what size (volume) bottles of wine you are speaking of? It will make it easier to calculate the "units" easier.

Bob

PS Often, I think others inadvertently underestimate the amount in units they actually drink. At one time, I was in the hundreds of units per week, but even in an anonymous forum, it is still embarrassing to admit the amounts we truly imbibe.

Yes that is what I was wondering, because when I add up my "old" drinking days that is what I came up with, and notice other people's were lower, and the comparison to me seemed like they did not drink "THAT MUCH"
Just trying for a perspective

ART, if it makes you feel any better - we drink just about the same! I am drinking 2 bottles of Chard pretty much every day. Throw in the Bloody Marys or champagne at times - and if I have my house dress on with high heels - maybe even a martini.
That sounds about right, for a regular drinker, I mean that's about where my "crowd" is at.

It is odd how the numbers play games in your head. When I first got here and was counting my wine bottles at 10 each, plus other nonsense - I was at looking at a starting point well over 150 a week. YIKES! No one else here seemed to be that high!
So I am counting the bottles at 9 so maybe that's why my numbers are high.

Everyone is going to tell you not to compare yourself with others, but I did the same thing. Just keep your counting consistant so YOU can see the ups and downs and eventual decline. That's right, but just curious as I said

I personally wish someone would graph this in percentages. OK, I'm a visual person! ME TOO!

Week One: The same %
Week Two: 15% less
Week Three 25% less (than starting pint)
Week Four 10% less
Week Five: 2 % less
Week Six: 31% less and so on

And so on. I think that would be a VERY interesting graph to see here. All the same baseline, but be able to see the ups and downs. Maybe I will play around with that. Who wants to be my guinea pigs and get put on a graph? HA!
I am into graphs, you can use me, let's see who else....?

OK ART - so let's use a baseline of 150 Pre SM? - Your 140-160ish

What happened in the weeks following? Were you tracking?

And you are now at a mean of roughly 54 the last month? Dang GF, that IS progress!

I'm going to put mine on a graph when I have the time and brain cells to do it, but I would need your weekly numbers from start. I suspect there may already be someone doing this?
NO NO NO! The units were from my prior five year attempts at changing my drinking habits, which included the surfing, the hypnosis, the therapy, the rehab etc ........ so I did use the nal on and off in those five years as a deterrent to drinking as that was the way it was prescribed originally to me (along with a one time vivtrol shot)

SO through all that I did get it down, to the 2 bottles a day, lets say starting last May, 08, (after my "rehab").

Jan 09 nal and bac 35 days AF
Feb 09 nal and bac 1/2 bottle (+ -) daily
March 09 nal and a little bac (5 mgs per day) up to 1 bottle wine per day
April 09 1 bottle per day, except for April 2, 3 and 4th - 1 & 1/2 bottles per day
April 5th, and 6th 1 bottle per day

SO when I talk about the progress it had been a long haul, let's see now how TSM works for me.

I was going through Eskapa's book, and he counts a 750 (small) bottle of wine as 6.5 units. I've been counting them as 5 units, as that's how many average size glasses I get from a bottle. That's 10 units a day for my (average) two bottles a day. . .or 70 units a week, which is where I started pre-Sinclair.

Last night I tried going AF. Thought it was a real breeze till I served our dinner. Yikes! The craving suddenly went thru the roof. So I took a Nal, and poured wine around 7 p.m. Even so, I was able to keep it to 5 units, or one bottle. Better than my usual two, so I'll take it.

OH dear, it's really the middle of the night and I am emotionally hanging by a thread. Finally took a zanax and drank some vodca. Am going to try to go back to sleep.

I am going to redo my numbers later today on Tuesday, using the lower count for the 750 wine. That may be more copacetic for the log.

Yes, there is some confusion as to the number of "units" per beverage, depending on where you pull the information.

If possible, we should all be pulling from the table in Dr. Eskapa's book. However, I don't think it really matters as long as you are consistent.
