Good points Lena. With this in mind, I think it's probably a good idea to go back to my Dr and let him know that I'm essentially abstinent at this point (I say essentially, as I am not currently drinking, but I would drink a beer with a buddy or something like that if the situation arose). I could take my wife along to backup my story. :)

The reason I think it's important to get off the Nal a Dr is prescribing is because of the response I received when denied life insurance. I don't recall the exact wording, but it basically said that since I was currently using Nal, they considered me still in treatment. Remember, mainstream medicine views Nal as a anti-craving med.

Wort - I will delete all of your posts before I respond even to a subpoena for anything you've posted. The government, including the courts, can go pound sand. This is a self-help group and I consider it as sacrosanct as attorney-client or doctor-patient. Even though it legally isn't so, I will simply have an unfortunate data loss before I produce information for anyone. That said, don't anyone think I won't report anything abhorrent.

That DOES NOT protect you from anyone archiving this site. By an informal vote of our members, we elected to leave all forums open to anyone. This includes search engines. I didn't fully agree with that, but I deferred to the membership.

What what?

Houtx: I'm assuming you are asking about my last post.

Wort expressed concern about his (her?) posts being used as a time-stamped record re alcohol. I merely expressed that I will destroy records before turning them over to anyone. You know, an unfortunate data loss. Kind of like an accidental fire in the fileroom.

this is a response to mario - I'm assuming you are in Canada like me. We don't have the same concerns because of our system. National healthcare covers us for stuff like naltrexone with no question of us getting kicked off, or fearing it on our records (although we have to pay a gazillion dollars for the stuff) but I think we would have the same difficulties if we get private insurance in addition to the national system. I guess we're so used to our system that we can't understand the problems of a mostly private system.

If you, mario, were to apply for life insurance you'd have a real problem if you had been diagnosed with cancer for example - that's what these US folks are facing.

I'm always amazed that our dear friends in the US have such fears of a public system considering all the problems they encounter with their HMO stuff but we're completely different in our outlook as far as government is concerned - and our histories are also very different.

But, we love you all down "there" just the same....

New member & seeing my primary tomorrow - I just saw this and now I'm wondering if I am better off just buying online & not telling him that I'm starting TSM. The alldaychemist prices aren't really too bad - I spend more than that on booze now =). Having a scarlet 'A' in my medical records is concerning. Any thoughts?

This is something we all must decide for ourselves. What we've tried to do here is to provide information from other sources, weigh the pros and cons, and recount our own experiences. Best wishes with whatever you decide. I hope the information you've found here is useful.

Tito,

There is nothing to be gained by discussing TSM with you PCP unless you have other medical conditions you are worried about. The only downside, in my opinion, of ordering from alldaychemist is that you'll need to wait a couple weeks for the NAL to show up. Getting a script from your PCP, IF he gives you one, means you'll have the meds in hand the same day.

If it were me, I'd order from alldaychemist, or one of the other online sources.

Thanks for the feedback - I think I'll be going online. I've got a physical scheduled for July but don't want to wait that long to start TSM; I'll get a liver function test then (he knows I drink heavily). I'm sure i'm fine, just a bit of a hypochondriac.
