Mario -- Great news of your progress. The experience that you and BGH had is common. Some don't just have a transient wave of strong craving; they actually spike up for a few days or even weeks. Either way, it's called an extinction burst. Eskapa doesn't label it as such in the book -- the term is nick's contribution from his knowledge of classical conditioning. Think of the bird, trained to expect a pellet of food after he pecks a lever. Suddenly, the food stops appearing after the bird pecks the lever. For a time, the bird pecks frantically until finally he gives up. This is exactly what our brains often do near the end of the extinction process. Unconsciously, our brains frantically seek the reinforcement of the endorphin rush that had come for so long and now is absent. Of course the good news is that the brain gives up just as the bird does. My point is that, far from a cause for worry, this is yet another sign that you are well on your way to completing the extinction process. Thanks for continuing to share your experiences with us.

Hi all, thanks for droping by.

Had a very stressful week at work doing a job Im not fully trained for, actually brought down a computer system for about 40 mins yesterday morning. It cost us money but no one blamed me except myself. I couldnt wait to get home and have a drink. I had a hot whiskey and three quarter of a bottle of wine. I was well buzzed but had no problem stoping though which I was delighted with.

I didnt have any drink yesterday. I was going to but it got too late so I gave up on the idea pretty easily. My biggest triumph since I started was tonight. I went out with Hub to our local pub and ordered a pint of beer. I sipped it for a while but had very little interest in it. It tasted perfect but it looked too big and it seemed like too hard a job to finish. Hubby finished mine and I had a soda water and lime and came home. Im just so happy. Every week it seems like alcohol is loosing its grip a little more. I started out hoping to be a moderate drinker at the end of the four or five months but Im beginning to think that in a few months alcohol will have a very small place in my life. Thank God I came across this site when I did. Im getting my life back slowly but surely.

Long weekend over and lowest units to date.

I had a hot whiskey and 3 glasses of wine on Thursday night, was pretty buzzed but enjoyed it, had a bit of a hangover on Friday but had nowhere to go so no panic. Didnt drink anything on Friday at all. On Saturday I had less than a unit of beer and on Sunday I had one small glass of beer. Monday I had a can and a half of mixed fruit cider. All told I reckon I had about 12 units throughout the weekend. I wont be drinking anymore untill Friday at the earliest, so thats within safe drinking limits.

I have a question though that I probaly should ask elswhere. Yesterday I had my can of cider at about 4pm. I didnt take a nal as I figured I was allready covered by the nal I had taken the night before at about 8.30pm. Am I right in thinking this?. If I had been planing on an extended session over a few hours I would have taken another one, as it was I was fine and I didnt finish the second can but I felt a bit guilty drinking it without having taken at least a half one. Thanks in advance for any answers.

I have read that the half-life of Nal is 4 hours. I would not risk deviating form the program as written. You risk reversing much of the progress you have made. Golden rule: Take your Nal before you drink; every time.
