I had acute cholecystitis and had to have my gall bladder removed. They had to treat it for a week with antibiotics to get the swelling down enough to remove it laproscopically. Otherwise they would have had to convert to an open cholecystectomy which includes a large incision in the abdominal wall.

I spent 10 days on IV dilaudid 2mg every 2 hours and oral oxycodone 10-20 mg every 4 hours (24/7, no sleeping) and it still didn't kill the pain. That is an ungodly amount of narcotics. Thank god I didn't do any nal/al the week prior to this. It was an unexpected emergency situation.

The surgery went well. I'm getting my sutures taken out today.

Do you believe that the nal effected the pain killers. I had the same op but without the complications. There could still be a lot of pain under your shoulder and under your ribs from risidual air that still remains after the op. I didnt know it but they pump you with air during the op. Something certainly did. I doubt it was the naltrexone because the narcotics were working, but just not nearly enough. They asked me if I ever used IV drugs several times and the nurses started rumors about me to that effect. I never have, but I did pop pills when I was a teenager.

Interesting to note though is that I am now 10 days post-op, the pain is gone and I have a lot of painkillers left still that I'm not taking. I've got no craving for them at all, which is bizarre because I used to be very addicted to them. I'm thinking it's the baclofen.

I still do have pain at the incision sites and under my ribs where the gall bladder was. Yeah, they pumped me full of CO2 I think.

A gall bladder infection in a guy my age that's not overweight is an anomaly. It's not caused by alcoholism. Everyone said it just never happens.

I had the old fashioned surgery with the big scar to prove it. I was only 29 and in-shape. Anyway, have you changed your diet much since you have been lifting? Hope you feel better. I've never heard of Dilauded not working.

Hi Lo0p, I was wondering what happened to you that you weren't posting on either sites for awhile. Please take care of yourself and don't push yourself too much (wow do I sound like a MOM!)

Glad you're back and doing better

I was wondering too. I was about to send you a pm. Corkit's right; we moms are like that. Glad you're doing better. Take good care of yourself. Do what they tell you about no weights for a while.

Yes, I noticed your absence, too. I figured people get busy with their lives, go on vacation, etc. and drop off the earth for periods of time. I didn't realize you had gall bladder surgery. I trust you are healing well.

Heredity are a far better indicator for possible gall bladder problems than is weight. My skinny wife has a family history of gall bladder blockage. Gall stones are made out of cholesterol, which has nothing to do with blood cholesterol levels.

A word of caution, the gall bladder is very close to the pancreas. When surgeons remove the gall bladder, occasionally they inadvertently block the duct leading out of the pancreas which then causes pancreatitis. It's important that if you have renewed pain within the next few weeks or even months to see a physician immediately or your pancreas could be permanently damaged. This problem happened to my wife and it required another surgery to unblock the duct. She is OK now (this was years ago) and her pancreas is healthy.

Glad you are back and on the mend!

Bob
