All,

There is a very interesting thread at My Way Out Forums > Introduction & General Discussion > Topamax, Campral, Naltrexone, Baclofen, other meds regarding a recent article in the American GQ Magazine. It was posted by the author. The article may be accessed here:

Yes, wort I read it a little lengthy but very interesting. I'm trying to get my husband on BAC, he really needs to take a break from AL, it's nonstop. He won't go to a doc so I guess I have no other choice but to order it online and hope he takes it.

Very interesting topic. I just started reading Dr. Amiesen's book and find it informative, and a really good read. I have a friend who I think would be a good candidate if he is unresponsive to TSM. I will be coaching through one of these treatments soon. wish me (and him) luck.

Thanks Lo0p - I wish it were true, me being a Saint! I firmly believe that the dark ages are nearing an end for addiction treatment and that you and others around these parts are blazing the trail.

Please God, that is so.

Im thrilled with TSM and Im only 4 weeks in. Im trying to build up the courage to tell a woman I know about Nal. She has told me she is worried about her drinking but Im still hessitant to let her know that Im on it.

I will tell her though Im worried about gossip.

So, I just finished the Baclofen book and really couldn't put it down. Dr. A is a very engaging writer and fascinating fellow. While I believe TSM is a best approach more many, many people, it sounds like Baclofen is a godsend for some. A good friend is willing to try a new approach after half a lifetime of suffering. I don't think he has the time to do TSM alone. I would like to find a doctor in the Los Angeles area who is willing to prescribe Baclofen for him. Alternatively, a source and good titration regimen would be appreciated.

My wife is on baclofen and it has more or less stopped her addiction. She tried everything: AA, rehab, Naltrexone, Acamprosate. Nothing worked. We read Ameisen's book and got a prescription for muscle spasm. The trouble is it is not a high enough dose and if she forgets to take it the cravings come back. If she does drink she can stop a binge by taking a handful of pills. It is an amazing medication. Some say it will become the medication of choice for alcoholism via word of mouth without ever even being trialled. I think the medical profession will have to look out or they may be swamped with lawsuits for not taking this seriously and not keeping up to date with developments in alcohol research. The dose Ameisen recommends is 1-3 mg per day per kilo of body weight. You have to take it up to the maximum dose over a period of time, allowing time to adjust to its sedative effects and then reduce it to whatever allows you to maintain sobriety. If you don't use the right amount it suppressed cravings but does not eliminate them. Some say that he has discovered the cure of addiction, not just alcoholism because he has found that the root cause of alcoholism is anxiety caused by GABA-B dysphoria where other medications such a valium and narcotics affect the GABA-B receptors. If his science is right then it is a cure. His science is right; it is a cure!

Daffyd,

I am so happy to hear of your wife's progress. There are several offshore sources for baclofen. You can get started by looking here.
