Hi, I am now commencing my 8th week on Nal. My cravings have gone way down and I am now going to try and not drink, or at least not too much!, just out of habit. One thing I have noticed though is that my blackouts are a worse! Anyone else have similar experiences?

This probably won't help much but I couldn't resist saying that I don't remember. ;)

you're a bad man Bob

I was tempted to post the same quip, but managed to restrain myself!

seriously though, I'm lucking in that blackouts were/are a rare (to the point of non-existence) occurrence for me. I'm just lucky I guess, because it wasn't due to any great restraint on my part

Hi CM,

I havent have a blackout since I started so im surprised to hear that you are. Its not pleasant waking up not remembering the end of the night before. I usually only get them when Im drinking wine. I find beer doesnt quite lead me to the blackout stage. Brill to hear that overall your cravings are down. Im still on a honeymoon and I hope it lasts untill after St Patricks Day.

Your envelope is sitting up in the desk here in front of me so I better get off here and post it.

Talk soon

xxx

My wife has had a few blackouts on Nal. She takes other medications, so it's not clear that Nal has contributed to this issue. When she hits 9 or so units, it happens like clockwork.

In all seriousness, my only blackouts on Naltrexone was when I was taking Valium and drinking concurrently, which, by the way, is not a good idea. Valium is bad enough on memory, but alcohol magnifies the heck out of it. So, although I have had blackouts on Naltrexone, I attribute that effect on the other drug combination and not on the Naltrexone.

Well, I find that strange because I blacked out from booze before Nal but never after taking Nal. And I used to be a major binge drinker. Scientifically speaking that is strange because the opiate part of the brain is blocked by Nal so I am not certain. Maybe the part of the brain that blacks out is different. That is a question for the doctor. Good luck getting an answer tho because I asked a question 2 years ago and I am sure I have not yet received an answer. Kidding a little but I don't think I ever got an answer to my question and I asked it when the site was started. Best of luck. :)

I'm wondering if it is part of the loss of tolerance,..making a blackout more possible.

I have blacked out on NAL, I still think though that you are better off blackout or not,...taking NAL.

You've been on relatively a short period and in 6 months or so I think you will find a world of difference and even before then....

Hang in there...and please post often if need be, BEst, Jim

I'm wondering if Jim is right: lower tolerance leading to easier blackouts. Blackouts, along with debilitating depression, were the two major reasons I sought treatment for my habit. I was blacking out two nights a week on average, in the end. As soon as I got on TSM, they stopped for me. I went from blacking out twice a week pre-TSM to maybe five blackouts over 8 months on TSM.
