Lena, I again apologize if I offended you or anyone else on this forum.

I realize that for all of us, drinking has either ruined or come close to ruining our lives. Me included. It's a sensitive topic. I will try to collect my thoughts and post more soon.

I repeat, if anyone wants to join me today (Sunday) in an AF day, great.

nemo, we all have and are entitled to our own opinions and thoughts and suggestions.
I love your idea of an AF day and the energy you have behind it. ;)
I wish you a wonderful day, and I know it will be powerful, every day I have AF and that is only maybe 200 days in the last 38 years, I feel a renewed energy, but for some people it can be a real SERIOUS jump start toward many more.
Good thoughts to you!

I started this topic because I found that some of us, even on NAL, and even MONTHS into TSM, find it difficult to set aside an AF day. I thought that by offering some group support, we might find it easier to set aside a single day (JUST ONE DAY) for AF.

I now realize that "group support" is a loaded term for alcoholics like us. It reminds some of us of peer pressure, judging, labeling, AA... All the things we joined this forum to escape.

I would never want to interfere with anyone's personal journey.

I didn't mean this as an insult, and I yet again apologize if I've offended anyone on their long, difficult quest to break free from alcohol dependency. God knows it's why we're all here.

I personally believe that TSM must be accompanied by life changes, but I expressed this opinion too crudely, incompletely, and in a way that seemingly helps no one. I retract the statement.

I don't see any reason for you to apologise. Your thread title is pretty clear - you are doing something pro-active and issuing a no-pressure offer for others to join you. For some people who may be struggling to achieve an AF day on their own as it were, they may be assisted in doing so by a 'group effort'. If anyone feels it is beyond them, then so be it. They'll have my support in their journey anyhow, and I'm sure the same applies to everyone else here.

I may or may not join you today, I haven't decided yet - but I wish you luck in YOUR efforts anyhow. Ditto for everyone else - whether they partake in your offer or not.

If it every got to the point where I felt person A would be disprespectful of person B for not participating in such an idea, then I'd have no issue in taking up the cudgels on behalf of person B and telling person A to cop on. I see no evidence whatsoever of this though, and I'd respectfully suggest that people imagining themselves in the shoes of person B grow a thicker skin and realise that there aren't any monsters under this particular bed.

Lena has long been of the opposing view, so it's no surprise that she took exception to your post.

I am not of the "opposing view". There is no opposing view. The Sinclair Method is to take naltrexone one hour before drinking, then drink as you normally do. Period.

Some of The Cured report the process to be effortless; some, like AJ_, report that applying some effort was useful. It is -- literally -- illogical to say that because I don't believe everyone finds exerting effort useful, then I oppose exerting effort.

We certainly are free to express our views on this board, which is why we have the corresponding responsibility to take care in our choice of words.

Nemo, I do think an apology was warranted; there is quite a difference between saying some use naltrexone as a license to drink, and saying some find AF days difficult and could use some support. No one would disagree with the latter. I'm glad that's what you meant. That said, you are quite gracious to apologize and, as for myself, I accept.

I see both points but do not think nemo set out to offend anyone. I am going to pass on this day AF but do not intend to overdrink....not that I ever do. Was thinking tomorrow and Tues.
Good luck to me and everyone else. :-)

I thought the AF day was a nice idea nemo. Disclaimer - I'm in that camp you identified that believe that a bias towards drinking less may be beneficial on TSM.

Me too. Alcohol free here today (and for the past 27 days). I enjoyed it so much, I plan to be alcohol free tomorrow too.
