Got my nal today, 13 days after ordering from alldaychemist.com. I have also ordered the book, as well as the baclofen book (it was cheap). I've been reading this board for 13 days, and feel like I know you all. I'm amazed at the progress being made! I'm excited, nervous about SE, and have some questions:

Since I'm only averaging 8 beers per week (F or Sat nights), am I killing a mosquito with a sledgehammer here? True, I'm exhausted on Sat, feeling depressed until Tues, and obsessing about F night's cold ones from W on... Ok, I've answered my own question.

Can I start out with 12.5mg? Some of the SE stories here sound quite unpleasant. I also have some weed available to counteract any nausea; I'm assuming that can be utilized as a remedy should the need arise? 8-)

Anyone else in a similar situation? ie, relatively low intake, but bingey, and trying to drink "social only" for years?

Thanks to everyone for their great posts, and I'll keep you all up to date on my progress.

If you're here, you must *a* problem.

>am I killing a mosquito with a sledgehammer here?

No. You used the following words: depressed, obsessing, bingey. These are words that indicate a problem. Big or small, who's to say, but a problem nonetheless.

Don't start with 12.5mg. That won't do ****. Start with 25, and quickly move to 50.

Me too,

My units are probaly quite low, mostly 10-12 on Frday night, same on Saturday night and maybe another bottle of wine sometime during the week but mostly not. Its the depression and the blackouts that I cant live with. That and the knowledge that Im not in controll of how much of drink, from once I have one or two its out of my controll.

Can I ask though, why are you starting with bac at this stage, why not give nal a chance to do its thing first?

Best of luck

Naltrexone is a benign drug with minimal side effects and I think it's entirely appropriate that you should try TSM. Baclofen, as I understand it, is a muscle relaxant with far more potential for negative repercussions, from my limited understanding of this drug. IMO, treating an 8 beer a week habit with Baclofen would be killing a mosquito with a hammer. I agree with what was stated above -- why not just try naltrexone first? Your habit -- although significant to you personally -- is miniscule in comparison to most people here and will probably be eliminated by TSM. (I also drank only on the weekends since high school. Started at 8 like you back in '80 and progressed to more like 50 per weekend.)
