Loop,

The advise you gave me (an others on this forum) to apply for life insurance and say I don't have a primary care physician, when I really do have one, is VERY BAD advice. This is because I went to my PCP for a prescription for NAL

I did as you suggested. Now the insurance company I applied to it saying I commited Fraud and is threatening legal action against me.

You stated you worked in the Life Insurance field as an agent? I find this very hard to believe.

You must not have been informed of the numerous databases that life insurance companies share between one another. These people know more information about me (beyond what I've given them) than any other publically available source out there.

Q

I am sorry Q. That is the advice we give them regularly and it works out great for us and for them. I am a captive agent though, meaning I only sell for one company.

The only database that I'm aware of is the MIB, which is where they would keep and share that information. It must just be because you got dinged already and they uploaded that info.

They're not going to sue you over that. We always try to circumnavigate these problems before they happen by keeping the doctors out of it as much as possible. Again, I'm sorry Q.

And I wouldn't call it bad advice. So far it's worked 99% of the time...

Beefcake photo posts notwithstanding, for all we know, Lo0p is a twelve-year-old girl. Based on what we know of him here, I think he has a heart of gold but I certainly would not rely on his advice about life insurance. For that matter, I would not rely on the advice of anyone here or anywhere else who thinks it is a swell idea to knowingly put, ahem, inaccurate information on a policy application.

I think I'll stick to learning from the experiences shared here about the matter at hand, and take what's shared with a grain of salt. That's the benefit I derive from this board. It's ultimately MY responsibility what I do with the information shared here. We are, after all, really just strangers.

As SpringerRider would say, your mileage may vary.

I've also been a raging alcoholic for eight of those twelve years...

We really do do it all the time though. But I've never had anyone come to me and say "I was denied because..."

I received a nasty letter was all. It's probably just a bunch of bullying.

The term I used "a bunch of databases" was an exaggeration. I'm not sure how many databases the ins companies use, but I suspect its more than just MIB.

I did find out some very useful information last night with respect to what is in ones MIB record. As Lena pointed out, MIB has to operate under the same rules/laws as the credit reporting agencies. As such, you can challenge every entry in your MIB record and request it be "VERIFIED" This is a one of the 3 legal challenges you can make. To verify, MIB has to get documented information backing up what is in the database. If they can't get this information, they have to delete the entry. The documentation to backup the entry would most certainly include your medial record, which you aren't obligated to give. :)

I bumped the other thread, but I'm going to post the link here. Two private agencies gather and report info about our prescription drug purchases. They too are subject to Fair Credit Reporting Act laws, and we really should find what they've got on us. So basically, even if we pay cash, there are records if we use our real name. How this is legal under HIPPA is beyond me. Here's the link:
http://www.privacyrights.org/fs/fs8-med.htm#B

We would do well to hop around and read the other pages on that site. Golden info about our privacy, or lack thereof.

For example, we should opt out of third-party disclosures of our personal stuff by banks and other financial institutions. The law was changed a few years ago that they can blab anything about us unless we tell them they cannot. So the burden is on us to take this important step to protect what little privacy we have.
