Oh - let me just say a few things here and then get on with it. No one is making a big deal about my temper tantrum, which is good. Sometimes I do get pissed off. And yes, Springer pissed me off. No need to explain futher, I think I was pretty clear as to why. I understand the not coming on here very often if you have no reason to - but he just seems to be a bit arrogant on occasion.
A few too many cliches that I just get annoyed with on ocassion...like the other night. Springer is a fine guy, certainly, and I am happy for him. Perhaps he didn't mean to come across that way, but I felt like he was being a bit arrogant & superior.
Sometimes I voice my irritation. Doesn't mean I hate him forever or anything..altho would welcome any further feedback. We on this thread were talking about BAC & the success you, craving, & LoOP have seen...
That's all. In spite of the negative diversion, I am still really REALLY going to suggest that to my DR at my next appt. Not to be a speed freak fom the 60s or anything!! LOL
houtx I really hope that Baclofen does work for you. Keep in mind that the dose does the trick. People who have not had results usually took 30-80mg a day only. I am at 250mg and I am totally free of craving. You need to adjust the dose to 2-3mg / kg. Your doctor might not be willing to describe a such high dose.
Once you are on that dose, you will most likely wish to totally stop to drink alcohol - already with lower doses I was able to moderate my drinking to 1 drink a night - I had to force myself to drink on a party 3 units!
Once the craving is over with 2-3mg/kg you will have no relief of drinking - it is just the habit, and that will then soon get lost too.
Try to take Baclofen regularly - in the beginning I thought it would help to take bigger concentrations in one doses. The reality is that Baclofen takes 2-4 hours to give you the craving relief. And by now I get neck pain telling me I am too late taking it. So I either way have the choice to take Ibuprofen to end the pain or to take Baclofen to relief my muscle pain and sort out my alcohol problem at the same time. The decision is easy!
By now I take a single dose 50mg example like this (each time 50mg) - I am dosing it quite variable
1am - 5am - 9am - 2pm - 5pm
1am - 5am - 8am - 11am - 1pm
Baclofen takes about 2-4 hours to take real effects for me, and it accumulates in the body when taking fast enough.
Start SLOWLY with Baclofen. Never increase too fast, the side effects might knuckle you off - on the other hand I did it sometimes on purpose to have a alcohol similar feeling. It improved over time that this binging is not becoming an issue anymore.
Don't be scared by the less amount of sleep you are going to experience. You will most likely feel at first really strange, as you expect it to hit you back soon. It appears to stay like that - less sleep required. I sleep on average 5 hours a night now, and I am totally fresh when waking up and not feeling tired!
I take Doxylamin usually before sleeping - maybe that does have a good combination with Baclofen.
Previously when drinking alcohol I also got quite fast pissed off with people. By now it is a bit more difficult to loose my tamper.
I did not realize that alcohol was making me aggressive. I was never hitting anyone, just psychologically abusing people. I am really happy to be free of alcohol - I really hope it works for you!
There is a 12 % margin where people do not respond to opioid antagonists - in this case the biological addiction may be coming from another system (such as GABA - the one valium/librium and Baclofen act on).
I think the reality is that Alcoholism is a combination of opioid and GABA addiction. It could be that you are 80% opioid receptor addicted and only 20% GABA - then TSM would help you significantly.
I think Baclofen cures the part that Nal is leaving out. Looking at people for whom TSM worked out, many of them still drink alcohol, and can not imagine living without alcohol.
The "can not imagine living without alcohol" is a very strong indicator for alcoholism. So although TSM helps reduce drinking to secure levels it does not help them to stop completely.
Since taking Baclofen I am seriously considering total abstinence.
I experience a control over Alcohol like I have never had before. It is not controlling me anymore. 3 Weeks on Baclofen and my thinking on Alcohol has almost zero'ed! I am seriously considering trashing a good part of my alcohol in my house.
16 AF days in a row. I keep on repeating the AF days in my posts - as I can simply not believe it!!!
I really think that going TSM the first instance is the right way. I think the initial combination of TSM+Baclofen is not good - as Baclofen lets you block the addiction (so you seriously reduce intake) meanwhile TSM needs significant intake of alcohol.
TSM 6-8 months - if results are not promising then switch to Baclofen. That way you defeated your Opioid receptor addiction and then deal only with the missing GABA. You can then still continue to take Nal before drinking - although WITH THE RIGHT DOSE your craving will be erased and you will seriously consider removing alcohol totally off your life! (Yes I could not imagine that at the beginning too!)
Even people having success on Nal might consider taking Baclofen. It removes the last thoughts of alcohol in your brain!
