I'm getting a bit disconcerted by all the posting about wine being different and wine drinkers having less success from Nal. Because that is me. A wino through and through. I was trying to find a post I read earlier today and can't relocate it. It had to do with wine being more than just a drink. I related completely. Usually if there's no wine around, I can drink a couple of mixed drinks or a beer or two and then just quit/don't care. But wine.... it is my companion, my friend, my lifestyle. Having a nice dinner out = having wine. I love to settle down with a good book...and my wine. My husband and I watch TV or a movie...with our wine. This is the thing I'm having such a hard time with. I notice that I don't crave as much as I did pre-Nal, nor do I become an idiot or overdo the drinking as much. But it seems I have these rituals that I can't overcome. I'm still proud of my progress, I haven't done anything I regret or drank to the point of blackout, but wondering why I haven't made more progress. Anyway, almost to the end of week 8 so maybe all is well. Just all the posts about wine drinkers in particular getting me down a bit.

NOT to "get you Down!"
Just observations and sharing and that is exactly why we are all here writing.
As you continue to have your own experience, share it and hopefully it shall help others.

"End of week 8" ?? It is still so early in the game, Illuminae! Don't get discouraged & don't give up. If you have seen even little things, than that's good! I think this medication works "immediately" (3-4 months) for a few, over time (6+ months) for most, and maybe only a little bit or not at all for the rest of us..but who knows what it really is supposed to do. If it helps even in small ways...isn't that a success? And who knows what may happen over time - over a LONG time... that's my thinking.

Anyway - don't be discouraged. Hang in there and listen to your own signals. Be strong and positive. RAH RAH!! LOL Not to minimize, but I understand what you're saying. Wine is soooooo my comfort. But I have cut down - I am not a true "2 bottles a day" drinker...things are better. I am far from being cured, but like others who are dissatisfied in el photo grande, we are still acknowledgings small changes & good overall.

I posted yesterday in bob3d's wine thread - feel free to count me as a wine drinker for whom TSM worked pretty much exactly as advertised.

Yes, obviously you do have to create new rituals that do not result in drinking the quantities you wish to avoid. The nice thing is that it while it may seem inconceivable now, later it can be almost trivial.

I love wine too. I know that it has only been a couple of days, but I drank 1-2 bottles of red wine per night. I ate it with dinner, friends, chocolate, twinkies... always after 5pm and always at least a bottle. I had red wine my first night home from getting my prescription, thinking that this drug wouldn't have kicked in yet. I drank ONE GLASS. Last night, I had a glass, poured a second, and after a few minutes, poured it back into the bottle. I am thinking I'm in the "honeymoon" period, but whatever it is WORKS FOR ME! With that said, I thought to myself, "This must be how the French have their relationship with wine... and why they are so freaking skinny!". Good luck.

I can relate to all you fellow wine lovers. I too was a bottle-a -day red wino. I've been taking 25 mg. l/2 Nal since early Dec. and have had several AF days and the days I do drink I'm usually having 2-3 glasses. A couple of times in January I had 4 and I'm saying those are my out of control days. I probably should increase my dosage, but I didn't like the way I felt when I first started using 25 mg. so thought I'd keep it at that level. I do feel it's working and now I'm going to just try to have more AF days since it seems to be the ritual as much as the wine that I miss the most. At least I feel with the Nal that I'm not obsessing all the time and I think that's because I know I can have a glass of wine if I want one so I never feel deprived. That's a good feeling! I'm so thankful I found this site. You guys are the best.

So good to hear therre are some "winos" out there who are finding success w/ TSM - just goes to show it is a random thing really. Success rate 78% - huge in the big picture ("el photo grande" I like to refer to) but those of us in the 22% it is hard - and not saying we have not seen small & therefore successful changes...just not like the others who have seen & felt more significant changes.

Very happy for those who have felt those changes. I sure liked hearing from those of you wine drinkers who have had/felt success! Hope all continues to go well -
