I resolve to stay with this group on a weekly basis until I complete a full year. Time will tell whether I will intend to make weekly or at least a monthly basis after that time.

I am pleased to stay with the group!

Bob

Week 42:

I seem to be stabilized at about 4 drinks per session and 1 session per week. I wonder how long this plateau will last and when units will begin to decline again.

Oops.

Forgot to post progress last night. Alcohol is becoming such a non-problem now, I must actively think about checking TSM here, posting numbers, reading some posts and I guess it just slipped my mind last night. I had 3 units 7 days ago. Units have remained low for 19 weeks now, except for one week where I had a "spike" of 9 units.

I noticed a Pfizer TV advertisement on Chantix for tobacco treatment. They state that you should continue to smoke while taking the medication for (I think I heard) 12 weeks. The medication is supposed to block nicotine receptors and the learned behavior, cravings and desires goes away with time. Sounds strangely familiar doesn't it?

Here's my graph for week 43:

Bob, your numbers look amazing! I'm so happy for you and your new life :D

You mentioned about Chantix to keep smoking while taking it well that has changed since I tried it a couple of years ago. They said to smoke only one week after taking it and then to stop well that didn't happen. They must have figured out the same course should be taken like Nal (extinction). I'm going to look into it again seeing I have a whole months worth sitting at home.

Take care and thanks for posting to us who are following after you

Thanks! I think Wednesday is my 10 month anniversary on TSM.

I visited the Chantix site to see if I heard what I thought I heard on the TV ad and I found this:
Quote:
How do I take CHANTIX?
1. Choose a Quit Date when you will stop smoking.
2. Start taking CHANTIX one week (7 days) before your Quit Date. This lets CHANTIX build up in your body. You can keep smoking during this time. Make sure that you try and stop smoking on your Quit Date. If you slip up, try again. Some people need a few weeks for CHANTIX to work best.
3. Take CHANTIX after eating and with a full glass (8 ounces) of water.
4. It is recommended to take CHANTIX for a full 12 weeks. If you have completely quit smoking by 12 weeks, ask your doctor if another 12 weeks of CHANTIX may help you stay cigarette-free.
It looks like they want it to work after 7 days, but recognize that some people are going to continue smoking for a few weeks. I don't know if they've altered their initial regimen from when it was released, but this is what is on their website now. I don't know anything about smoking. I've never smoked. But I know many strong willed people who have been unable to stop. It must be a terrible addiction!

Bob

Month 10 completed... I seem to be on a plateau:
.
Image

Here's a formula for my extinction curve: 16⅓ + ¾exp(5½ - x) + ⅓exp(5⅓ - x)x + exp(e + 1⅓x - ¼x²); where x is the month.

One anecdote for the week. My tolerance for alcohol is dimishing with each passing month. This past Wednesday, after my Naltrexone, I intentionally had 4 beers between 5PM and 10PM, a moderately good experience for the evening, but nothing particularly outstanding. The next day was horrible. I was hungover the entire day. I never shook the headache all the way until bedtime. I didn't take any pain relievers, so the negative reinforcement would create new neural paths.

I think from now on, I will purchase single bottles of beer, rather than 6 packs. It's just too easy to get one more in the fridge. On the other hand, there are two lonely soldiers out there awaiting me over the past 4 days. They'll have to wait to next week. I guess I already know what week 45 is going to look like... (Hint: 2).

Bob
