I am so glad I foung this site.

I have developed a terrible drinking problem over about the last year. I drank a lot earlier in my life and gave it up completely for 7 years. I still craved beer especially in the summer. I basically quit doing the things I used to do while drinking...which were most of my hobbies. I would love to drink on the golf course, billiards, fishing etc. Well anyway I gave it up to save my marriage and had a couple of kids during my sobriety.

Early last year I was completely devestated by an event in my life. I almost went crazy...never imagined I could feel the way I did for so long. Started drinking again I really don't know what I would have done without the alcohol (bad to say I know but it numbed the pain enough for me to get through it. I never imagined I could drink the amounts that I am drinking now. I can easily drink liter of 80 proof in a day, 25 beers is not uncommon. I hardly even feel bad the next day now as well, which is contributing to my heavy drinking.

My Doc said I was a great candidate for Vivitrol. I was told it would take the craving away and if I did drink I would get nothing out of it. Well that lasted about the first 5 days. I researched a little more because I was concerned that it was not working as it should. I found out this method by chance and just barely after reading a wiki article.

I am now doing the method with the injection and I hope to change over to the pills in a week or so. Don't know if my Doc will go along with it because I know he did not intend for me to do TSM and probably does not know about it. He mentioned the pills but said I could choose not to take those.

I am really in a bad way with my drinking and hope this works for me.

bless you all

Welcome JB, I'm so glad you found us. Do you have the book "Cure for Alcoholism" by Dr. Eskapa? If not please read it so when you go to your doc you will be well informed on what to tell him about how TSM works.

Good luck

Welcome. Yes, get the book. Glad you found us. TSM does work for most people who try it but it requires patience.

My best,

Nick

Welcome JB,

There are a number of people who also use baclofen... this suppresses the craving to drink, it works in a different (and apparently complimentary) way than naltrexone. Have a read through "Loop's progress thread".

There is a *lot* of information out here on the internet... read up, speak up. Keep us posted.

hi Jackblack,
We are all with you and no matter what your story is, you are welcome here and if you would like to talk and share some of the emotional parts, go ahead, we are here for that too.
I hope you get some relief from AL with the naltexone, and as you read you shall see that many of us have had positive changes, some have had very successful reductions in our intake, and some of us have had good behavioral adjustments, that have made our life and the lives of our friends and family better.
Best to you
ART

Hi Tenn, if you read through, a lot of people here are not completely honest with their doctors. If you choose to go with the pills you can tell your doctor that you are going AF and using them for cravings and I am fairly sure he/she will prescribe in that fashion and then you can proceed to use it our way. Good luck to you.

Ditto,

My shrink wanted to get me the Campral because she was going to Aruba on a Forest Pharmaceutical Conference (joke),...but seriously....she was so Pro Campral, i wondered if her tan was the result of a conference.....

Just say you're scared of campral because of the side effects. Naltrexone's are so minimal and quickly subside if you have them. It's supposed to reduce cravings which it really doesn't BUT honeymoon will reduce your drinking and then HOPEFULLY you get extinction whilst drinking on the drug.

Don't expect any support from the outside world. You'll need this forum. The people here are gems...Best of luck, Jim Clark

PS Its 1 AM and normally I'd be smashed. I'm not!!!!!
