Why do you talk about yourself in the 3rd person? Is that some kind of new trend or are you just being cute and quirky?

When Roxy talks it's either him or his wife on the keyboard, usually him. In this case he is talking about Roxy, his wife. He is a wonderfully supportive SO.

Thanks Lo0p.

Ahhh okay. That's cool. For a minute there, I just thought I was in the Twilight Zone. Roxy, I think it's great that you two are so supportive. Awesome!

According to Dr. Eskapa, extinction takes at least three to four months. Page 104. In addition, outside of you AJ, there has not been a single person on this board who makes the claim that their addiction was extinguished in only one month. You are clearly a very tiny exception to the rule, both as defined by Eskapa as well as the "real life" experiences on this board. As accurately stated above, true extinction takes at minimum, three to four months according to Dr. Eskapa. And for almost all of us on this board, extinction takes in excess of five to six months, at minimum.

AJ - you are definitely the exception to the rule and blessed for sure! I believe that the majority of us are following the pattern that Nick writes of and agree that in real life we are taking longer than the study. I hope that willpower doesn't play a key role because I am the first to admit that I have none - that is why I am here and 30 lbs overweight (of course it's hard to lose weight when you consume about 800 calories a day of wine alone ;) ) On another note as posted elsewhere - I have noticed that weeks 6 and 7 seem to be spike weeks for many - Lo0p, Plain Vanilla, Mnick, and I'm sure many others - again, just noting that many of us seem to be following a pattern!

I just wanted to bump this discussion as I am at a point, i.e. tonight 5 1/2 months in, I'm (like last night) going to try and drink less.

Normally as this is my slow period workwise, (I usually am working all weekend) its a night out with the Mrs. I will try and plan on having 3-4 drinks like I did last night, even though my drinks are probably 6 units, my tolerance has vanished and I get foggy relatively quickly.

So I just wanted to throw the topic back out and discuss it again. Thanks, Jim Clark

I'm 6 months in and sometimes the thought of AL just makes want to. . . .ugh. BUT I still reach for the glass (wish I could shut off the brain). It seems that the best time when I feel this way is not to start at all because once I start I continue on and that once feeling of ugh just disappears. My question to the Cured do we just keep doing the same thing until the light bulb goes on and we have no urges and can just walk away?

Great question Corkit. I never had a "light switch" moment where I had no urge to drink at all. Instead, I kept drinking as usual, out of habit. And then at about six months I added just a little effort -- minimal effort. "I'm not drinking today." And it was easy. So, I would not wait for that magical light switch moment -- I would experiment with a little effort to not drink. Naltrexone puts you in the position where when you choose not to drink, you can follow through with it.
