I guess the above is self explanatory but wanted to make sure my Effexor 75 is still okay to take. Also since I am experiencing mild anxiety on the Nal (again hard for me to separate whats just my own fears) I want to know if Xanax will still work. I get occassional panic attacks anyway (thus the Xanax) but am sensitive to it so only take 1/2 a .25mg (lowest dose). Will I need to up my dose or will the Xanax have any effect ?

Also I use Sonata for sleep occassionally. Can I use that while on the Nal?

Hi -- Again, these are questions you need to discuss with your doctor. If you use the "search" button, top-right corner, you may find members recounting their own experience with the meds you mention. But beware of anyone on this or any internet site who dispenses medical advice!

The Benzo Bunch thread in General Discussion will give you a lot of info on members' experience with benzos, including Xanax. Xanax, even in a supposedly small dose, is a powerful benzo. According to the Ashton Manual conversion table, .25 mg Xanax is the equivalent of 5mg Valium! Dr. Eskapa, author of The Cure for Alcoholism, has suggested that those of us using benzos check with our md about tapering off them for improved prospects of success with TSM.

I hope the md who prescribes the meds you mention is approachable and open-minded about naltrexone. If you check the board index you will see links to chapters from Eskapa's book. One chapter is for medical professionals. Many here have used this as a teaching tool for their md.

Thanks. Unfortunately my MD is out of the loop....I ordered from River. I didn't want this on my record for insurance reasons. Anyway, if not Xanax perhaps anyone who reads this can suggest what they take for Anxiety. Are you saying Xanax may make everything worse? Sorry I am new to this but will look up the thread you mentioned. thanks
