I have been on baclofen for six weeks and am drinking one glass of wine a night. I added Naltrexone two weeks ago one hour before my glass of wine. Will naltrexone work effectively if one only has a single drink one hour after taking the naltrexone, or does one have to drink larger amounts in order for it to work. I am interested in getting to the point where I can just take the naltrexone and stop taking baclofen.
thanks.

One drink is good if that is your normal drinking pattern which after 6 weeks appears that it is. If you have chronic anxiety problems you may want to continue with your concurrent Baclofen regimen. If not, then switching to pure TSM using Naltrexone will likely work after a few months.

Best wishes and welcome!

Bob

Hi NC1,

I'm intrigued as to why you want to stop taking baclofen and take naltrexone instead. If you're only drinking one glass of wine a night, is that the result of being on baclofen? What was your alcohol intake prior to baclofen?

All the best.

V.

Sorry, I guess I didn't explain myself very well. For years I drank very heavily after work until I passed out. I started bac 6 weeks ago and kept drinking as usual. Six nights ago out of the blue I didn't feel like drinking at all. I had a couple of sips of wine with my wife and that was it. Every night since then I have had maybe a half of a glass of wine with her and then nothing more. I still crave it, but just haven't been drinking like before. I have to titrate up slowly otherwise I have major somnolence problems. I don't mind continuing to do so until I hit the switch where I fell indifferent to alcohol. I am not there yet, but am obviously making progress.

I started naltrexone Dec 1. I just think it would be nice to not take bac forever if I could get to a point where I could take naltrexone an hour before I want a drink. It just seems it would be easier. Thus I hope to continue to take naltrexone while I continue to titrate up my bac doses. So, that is why I wanted to know if naltrexone is just as effective if one is drinking a glass of wine a day vs a whole lot of alcohol each day. If so, I would continue to take nal while I take bac for several months and then see if I can titrated the bac down to where I don't need it anymore. I reread Dr Eskapa's book again and could not find that question addressed.

So, that is the specific question I am asking. Nal effective with small amounts of alcohol vs large amounts. Maybe I should ask Dr E on his forum thread if any research has addressed that question. Does anyone here know any such information.

I want to thank everyone for their help. I have been on the Mywayout site a lot and find everyone there to offer great encouragement, advice, and knowledge.

The short answer: Yes. Sinclair has emphasized (as recounted by Eskapa in his book; sorry but no time to look up p. # right now) that the number of drinking sessions is far more important than the number of drinks consumed per session.
