I hadn't realized it's been so long since I updated. I do not find it helpful at all to keep track of my numbers. The less thought I devote to drinking, the better. So I just take the nal and let the chips (or bottles) fall where they may.

Thanksgiving was a good marker to evaluate my progress. I've always been one to drink wine while I cook -- always has been a big trigger. Last Thanksgiving, I was up by 5 am to finish preparing the meal and was sipping wine by 6 am. I'm not normally an all-day drinker, but I could not imagine cooking without the ubiquitous glass nearby. So, I just sipped all day. I claimed exhaustion as the reason for parking on the couch for the rest of the day after the meal.

This year, I did the usual early-morning routine but did not even think of drinking until my son had a beer around 1pm. I had one with him. For the first time ever, the nearby liquor store was closed on Thanksgiving and so my son came back empty-handed when I sent him for wine. It didn't bother me. I had one of his beers later in the day and that was pretty much it.

I'm having ups and downs but my drinking is less than half what it was a year ago. I'm looking forward to continued progress.

I don't know how to mark my progress as to time, because I started last January but had to interrupt TSM for several weeks due to illness. I do know that Sinclair's subjects reported continued progress for up to three years. My progress has been in fits and starts but it is real, and I'm grateful for it.

Hi All - This Christmas was the loveliest I can remember. My son, 21, lives with me, and my daughter, 19, came over early Christmas Eve to spend the night thanks to an old-fashioned Midwest blizzard. No other relatives this year made it due to weather. We made cookies, played board games, and watched movies. A real memory maker!! Both kids have told me how much they enjoyed it. Very little alcohol, and I didn't miss it at all. Or course, neither did they.

My consumption still is above "healthy" limits and I hope that continues to improve. But alcohol doesn't dominate every scenario anymore. What a gift. What a blessing.
