Hi, I'm brand new, I plan to order nal online to start, but I want to find a Seattle Dr. that is familiar with TSM if possible. I would REALLY appreciate anyone in/near Seattle that could answer this.

Welcome aboard John! :D

I don't know of a Seattle area doctor but look into this if no one here can point you to one:

A while ago Dr. Eskapa suggested that we consider posting this link to a resource for doctors who are qualified to prescribe suboxone, a drug used to treat opiate addicts. Suboxone has properties similar to naltrexone, so perhaps these doctors, familiar with suboxone, will grasp TSM more easily than other MD's and therefore be willing to prescribe it. At least they will be more easy to educate about TSM. There remains that pesky warning about liver function in the prescribing info, but MD's should understand this was based on a single study in which subjects were administered 300 mg nal -- six times the 50mg for TSM protocol.

I notice an uptick in posts re: finding an MD, so I decided to go ahead and post it. No guarantees, but it's another resource.

Don't bother making an appointment. Call their office and ask if they prescribe Naltrexone, then make an appointment.

Well, Thanks to Lo0p, I found a Dr. in Seattle that is familiar with Natrexone (ironically his name is Dr. Martini!! LOL!). He actually spoke with me on the phone. He indicated that although he is familiar with nal he is not familiar with TSM. But, he said he could prescribe nal for any reason. One caveat, he does not take my insurance so the office visit is $200. But my co-pay for nal will most likely be 10 bucks for thirty. So doing the math, I guess I am better off doing this. Plus I have the added advantage of getting nal ASAP. Money is no object to kill my addiction.

I do have a question, though. He asked me if I tried antibuse (which I have not and never will) and I told him, “Yes, but it made me very ill” and I told him I was in 30-day in-patient rehab, which I really was.

So, my question for you wise folks: should I tell him that I am currently drinking, or tell him that I quit, but just want natrexone to “help” me from cravings? I know that is not how nal works, but the doctor most likely does not know that: natrexone + drinking = cure.

Thanks you guys are my Heroes!

Look,

My shrink was adamant about being abstinent and going to 12 step programs etc etc, sponsor, etc etc.

As a former AAer of 5 years (chip for 4), I have no real hatred for AA, but as I read the book (eskapa's), my accidental relapse, was in fact probably a situation that I could've nipped in the bud by taking Naltrexone immediately if I had cravings after the first night of relapse. Without going on about me, (which I am often very guilty of), ask your Dr. WHAT HE/SHE thinks you should be doing and say you will do it.

Now they have Campral for cravings,...works no better than a placebo but there's a lot of money to be made there and not on Naltrexone (generic...no money). Plus the rehab industry needs us sick. Sorry to sound conspiracy theory...But tell them that you're a musician and the thought of tinnitus makes you very anxious and from what you've been told Naltrexones side effects are mild and often none....or there are a host of other side effects just check it out

Side Effects of Campral - for the Consumer
Campral

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome when using Campral:

Diarrhea; dizziness; gas; loss of appetite; nausea; trouble sleeping; weakness.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Campral:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); anxiety; behavior changes; depression; mental or mood changes; nervousness; panic attacks; restlessness; suicidal thoughts or behaviors.

Say whatever,...but you can say you already have trouble sleeping and the idea of farting during a high level summit meeting could ruin relations between the US and Russia

Most importantly on a serious note, if they are believers in abstinence, then tell them you want help with cravings and will abstain and then lie,..sadly. ALthough my last visit, i greatly exaggerated that I had cut back and she seemed pleased and ok with that....

Ultimately, Do whatever you need....good luck, best, Jim

John, I will be really interested to find out how it goes with this doc. I'm in Seattle also looking to get the prescription.

I tried Dr Rosenfield, but no luck. All of the docs at Swedish are involved in the In-Patient treatment program there and it's hard to reach any of them. Haven't called Dr. Martini (ha!) yet, but I'm thinking about it. I didn't think it would be this hard to find a Doc that's familiar with TSM and/or Naltrexone. Anybody else in Seattle in the same boat? Thanks

Just FYI - Dr. Fannin at Mercer Island Family Medicine prescribes Naltrexone as well as Vivitrol. Dr. Wolf too, in West Seattle is very familiar, but is currently booked for at least the next six weeks.

I live in West Seattle, I should look into seeing Dr. Wolf. I decided to just use the river online source for nal. That is what I have been doing going on 3 months. Still waiting to see more results. I guess it takes time, I am definitely drinking less, but still daily.

Thanks.
