BGH - last week I had a revelation. It was one I've had before, but have forgotten to follow through on. It was something I knew when I was 5 years old, but let slip away as the wisdom of childhood fell to the knowledge of adulthood. it is simply: Be Happy!. I can add many other injunctions, such as, "and don't forget to be happy" or "no matter what anyone thinks about it", but in essence the task before me at any given moment is so very simple. Just be happy.

So while some may gag on the sugar coating you've put on your day, I think you are doing yourself (and the world by proxy) a great service. Good luck and God bless -

Fire

I think it's a wonderful thing you're doing BGH, and wish you very well with it :)

Firebird - that's absolutely tremendous too, wonderful!

BGH I am so glad that you are feeling more positive! To add to the quotes 'Everything is in divine and perfect order right now'. Maybe you should introduce your hubby to mrs N101CS
By the way start as you mean to continue - there is no need to ask our forgiveness for taking up space on this site!

BGH, I guess you're right it is in how you look at things. What's the old saying on how you see things "a glass half empty or a glass half full" :D Hopefully all of us on this board will try to see it half full.

Those of you with low sugar tolerance may not want to read this as it may be too sweet for you...but I've decided to begin this week with a positive note. I'm going to Love What Is. Stop and Smell the Roses. Sing a Happy Song. Walk on The Sunny Side of The Street. Put On A Happy Face. Whistle While I Work. I know, gag!

Hi BGH,

When I read the above, my immediate thought was that you must have read Byron Katie's book Loving What Is. Perhaps not, but your choice of words obviously resulted in my making that connection.

You have raised some very important points. Sorry to bring another book into this, but when you said "The point being that I'm going to take control over the things I can, and leave the rest.", I am reminded of the book Let Go, Let Miracles Happen by Kathy Cordova. No, I don't work for Amazon! I just read a lot.

With reference to your last paragraph, it does matter to me how I got where I am. Only by knowing this am I able to re-visit my childhood and work through the trauma that it brought me. I only speak for myself.

All my best.

With reference to how we got here, Virgil, I'm just thinking about Cognitive Therapy - I'm sure you know about this...they say we can change how we feel by changing how we think, and that what has happened in the past need not be explored (unless we want to) before we get better. In my case, I can't change my parents and how they raised us. It's not productive for me to lay my problems at their feet. As well, when I delve into my feelings about my childhood I just get more upset and childish. Better for me to use the Cognitive Therapy approach now.

Hi BGH,

I love your posts because you often raise some very stimulating and important issues - please keep 'em coming!

With reference to your statement above, I agree entirely with your conclusion, "Better for me to use the Cognitive Therapy approach now". We always need to be mindful that we are all different and, to coin that well-known phrase, one man's meat is another man's poison. In other words, go with whatever feels right for you.

All the best.
