I'm making a blog about TSM.

I really want to use this quote: "There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance — that principle is contempt prior to investigation." -Herbert Spencer

But the first time I heard it was on Orange's site. I certainly don't want to put off anyone, AA members especially, but that quote is soooo...relevant to the situation. Are AA members aware of Orange's papers and would they immediately be turned off by reading it? I asked my friend D (who is a 10 year 12-step veteran) and she had never heard of the Orange Papers.

that's a nice quote however, having had fierce arguments recently with someone I love who believes strongly what I disbelieve equally strongly - we both felt we had to defend our positions to the death!! There was NO meeting of the minds, no learning from what the other said. We're all so wedded to our positions in most cases that to educate by papers, research, argument even logic is very difficult. Personal experience is the key. Just my thoughts. Have a great day and take care of yourself!!

I highly doubt that the vast majority of AA members have heard of the Orange Papers or would be familiar with this quote.

Wow...Okay, I just found this on the net:

I really would like to pull that 4 part interview from youtube, convert it to an mp3, get rid of that ridiculous Intellectual Iceberg intro segment and condense it into one recording. Anybody know of any free programs that I could do this with? I'm not used to doing stuff like that.

yes good friend that is indeed the quote, (in my 3rd edition page 570).

I have virtually all of the literature endorsed by AA including the historical books, although I was told that Bill W was tripping on Belladonna when he had his spiritual moment,...I believe that to be in the orange papers of which I am familiar but have not read....BEst, Jim

My friend D just confirmed it for me, that quote is found in the Big Book 2001 Edition 4 pg # 568...
