Is AMBIEN a benzo?
I would appreciate am answer if any one knows, thanks.

from wikipedia:

"Zolpidem is a prescription medication used for the short-term treatment of insomnia, as well as some brain disorders. It is a short-acting nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic that potentiates gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an inhibitory neurotransmitter, by binding to gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABAA) receptors at the same location as benzodiazepines."

So does that mean that Ambien is acting the same way a benzo would, without being a benzo? This is confusing to me.
If any one could explain it more simply I would appreciate that info, but thanks LoOp for the definition.

I don't know ART. I don't think there's a person on earth that could conclusively answer the question you want to ask.

My best guess, based on very limited knowledge and riding on what I'd essentially call a hunch of the good doctors is...maybe it could hamper TSM progress. But I feel bad even proffering that, and I shouldn't.

edit: Yeah I just started to look into it further, it gets muddy quick. I know nothing about this stuff.

ART -- For our purposes: Yes. Z drugs work on the same receptors as benzos and they bring all the same issues to the table concerning getting off benzos and alcohol. Baclofen MAY work on a different receptor (GABAb) so MAY not pose the same issues. But that's not clear.
