Last night I took my Nal and 58 minutes later I had my first glass of wine. I had told myself that I was not going to drink wine again and am not sure it is a good thing now. Would love some input on that if anyone has had a similar situation.
I drank 4 glasses of wine and went to bed so although it was wine and not beer I still think I am doing well but then that last bout of tremors is still fresh in my mind so I am sure that is the main reason it is staying under pretty good control.
Still waiting for my book! 8-)

You'll love the book.

Everyone will tell you, drink as you normally would or more importantly, as your mind and/or body tells you.

So drink the wine if you want to....This is supposed to be effortless.

I've been finding as I think Virgil pointed out, because there is less guilt about drinking, its almost as if that makes us subconsciously drink less AT TIMES....

I wish my wife were on board, I must sneak which as we all know is very alcoholic. We're on the militaristic "Don't ask don't tell" policy which is fine but difficult at times. For example, she wants to go out tonight, I'll have to sneak a drink or two before we go out. Even though lately I've been fine with a few drinks, sometimes environment can make me Jones (why do they call it jonesing?)...thus making me uncomfortable....but I can have some when we return (again hiding). Hang in there and glad to have you here. Tell your hubby we all want to stop. This is not an excuse to continue abusing alcohol.

Jim's right. Most of us get pretty excited when we first start and don't know if we should attempt to cut back, or drink as usual. As Jim said the most important thing to do is RELAX. Let the drug do what it's going to do in your brain. Once you've got the book read, start at the beginning and read it again!! There's a lot you'll miss first time out. I still have questions but ask them here on the forum and have been greatly helped - especially with the advise: don't over-think!! We're looking forward to your posts as you progress. Have a great weekend.

Oh Jim, I am sorry that you are having to sneak your drinks. I'm not sure how I could get through it if I were having to hide it since I feel guilty enough about drinking as it is. Has your wife read in these forums about other's successes? That is what helped my husband to understand.
I was surprised that he has gotten on board and is trying to help me since we have argued to high heaven about my drinking so many times. Now he gets up and pours me a glass of wine!
But we have talked about it before and since he likes to drink socially he has agreed with me that it would be fantastic if I could drink normally as he is able to do so this is like an answered prayer for us both.
Best of luck to you! Just do it the best way you can.

My book came today and I am going to take your advice BGH and read it at least a couple of times. Books are my sleeping pills anyway so that will be a good one to take to bed with me.
You all have a great weekend!
Brit
PS Although AA did not work for me, I did enjoy having a sounding board for my distress and anguish when dealing with daily struggles alcoholic or not. From what I have read it does not seem that AA would accept me while using the Sinclair Method. I would love to resume going though. Do any of you/have any of you found a support group that will accept TSM?

We've got each other. :D

Try to bring this up at an AA meeting and you'll be burned at the stake. Trust me.

Welcome to TSM.com!! -Evan

Hi Brit,

Other people have made similar comments about wine. Why do you think that drinking wine is not a good thing? Is it because it's stronger than beer, for example? I would love to know your reasons. I feel that I have potentially something to learn here.

All the best.

V.

P.S. You can probably guess that I am (primarily) a wine drinker.

Hey Loop! You are right. I do have you all and that is great! But I will miss the face to face and the real hugs. But not the suffering of the hour after hour abstinence.

Virgil,
What I mean about wine is that it works faster, goes down easier and is less filling than beer.
I actually have given up on liquor PERIOD (I may as well dig my grave as I drink it) and wine was almost as bad so I chose to only drink beer because I just could not ever think of never having another alcoholic drink. It is just not in me, I know that but I also know that I just can't handle the pain that liquor (and then wine) has put me through so by drinking beer I get some effects but I really cannot stomach enough beer to cause all of the trouble to my system that wine or liquor can.
So, beer was my last resort and I stuck with it for over a year. The last wine binge sent me to the net to look for a way to stop.. again.
Then I found TSM and here I am.

Tonight I had 5 glasses of wine and one beer. I almost forgot my Nal. I was so looking forward to a drink that I took a sip (guzzle) of my wine and remembered right then that I had not taken my Nal so I set my kitchen timer for one hour and as soon as it buzzed I then began drinking as we watched a movie.
(for the first time since beginning TSM my husband started counting my glasses and making comments) so I guess I am kind of on my own and yet not. at his convenience.

Good night,
Brit

Hi Brit,

Thanks for the clarification. However, I now have another question. I assume by 'liquor' that you mean things like whisky, bourbon, vodka, rum i.e. the strong stuff. FYI, in the UK, we refer to this group of drinks as 'spirits' (or, at least, I do).

Best wishes.

V.

Yes Virgil,
Spirits is what I meant. My husband is from the UK and that is how he refers to liquor. :)
At one point I was drinking about a quart of whiskey a day. Waking just long enough to try and get more down. That's when I lost the use of my legs. Madness!

Take care,
Brit
