Sir,

In order to accelerate the health benefits of reduced alcohol consumption -- where the primary goal is to lower drinking to less harmful levels as quickly as possible -- can the Sinclair Method be combined with a planned "tapering off" schedule to eliminate detoxification side effects, or would doing so be contraindicated since it would involve some self-regulation which wouldn't otherwise be part of the program? If I do choose to taper off gradually by exercising control over how much I drink during the next three months, will I be sabotaging my long-term success?

You can by all means taper off if you are able to. In other words, if your craving is reduced you will be able to taper off. If there is an over-whelming increase in craving you follow the rule: Naltrexone 1 hour to 30 mins before drinking. See the section on 'Selective Extinction' in the book.
