ok I read all the threads here but i'm confused why we all focus so much on our numbers. TSM is supposed to get us to a cure without us really knowing it (it's working on our brains) right? but yet we obsess about our numbers. Since i've been keeping track of every drink i pour which i never did in the past could that hinder me on drinking the way i did in the past subconsciously, hence prolonging the cure? I've read the book and i don't remember where it says to keep track of what you drink daily. I feel like you are all family and it saddens me to hear the pain and frustration that some of you are in. My question is is this hindering us or helping us?

Has anyone ever done WW and counted points?

Hi corkit,

I find it helpful to keep track of units consumed. For example, just recently there have been times when I have failed to do this and I know from how I have felt the following day that I had more to drink than I should have done. So, I think it helps to self-regulate my alcohol intake.

Virgil, that's where i get confused if you're supposed to keep doing what was normal for you before tsm why do you have to count as you said to keep yourself in check with how much you drink? i can't wait until my choice of drink is LEMONADE!

misskris76, how did you do it? You said you didn't count how is that working for you?

I've been tracking only because it helped me face the fact that there was a BIG problem. Without tracking, I would minimize, rationalize and deny the facts. I honestly thought that I was only drinking 3 - 4 days a week before tracking and I don't think I added days when starting TSM.

I did WW for awhile and got pissed off at having to record everything - it also made me realize that half my calories came from alcohol and I wasn't able to reduce that. Also tend to be OCD about charts, numbers, planning so it took away from the enjoyment of meals. Now I'm craving chips :) Oh wait, I have some hidden

Hi corkit,

You have raised a perfectly good point. The fact is that I am having a tough time with TSM. So, I'm finding that I can't just let myself go and drink without a degree of restraint. If I did that, I know that I'd end up drinking even more. I've proved that to myself on a couple of occasions and I've paid the price! Furthermore, although unit consumption does not tell the whole story, it is an indicator of progress (or lack thereof). For the same reason, some people choose to record cravings but I had no joy with doing that so I abandoned the idea.

Hope that helps.

Thanks WTE saying it's not the amount but the times using Nal with al that makes the difference in tsm. That really helps, I thought it was the other way around. Virginia, I can relate with the calories in wine, I think if I didn't drink the way i do i'd probably weigh 30lbs less! Something to look forward to besides not drinking.

I didn't count drinks but often times my wife did(does). So I am kinda used to it. I was keeping the diary, sort of, for the first four months. I was writing it out on a white board then erasing it as I needed to. So I don't have all the tallies. I started recording it more formally, PDA, now.
Anyway corkit, nice rappin at ya.

I enjoy recording and documenting everything. Rainfall, temperatures, medication usage, and now drinking units. Then I enter the values into a spreadsheet and produce graphs to look for trends. It is part of my analytical personality. There are many unseen trends in the world and I like to find them. The TSM trend is interesting because it is not a classic exponential decay curve; there is a bubble above the curve between weeks 7 and 15 that I can't account for, but I'll see how it looks after a year of charting.
